Role Description

The individual will be responsible for the collection and analysis of business data requirements, and the design of data models at the conceptual and logical level to support those needs. This is a critical role for designing data models to support strategic applications and the enterprise integration of data.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate lead level capabilities in conceptual analysis, problem solving, and data design. They should have a proven ability to take ownership of business requirements, data analysis and modeling sessions.

Responsibilities

*Gather business and functional data requirements
*Integrate these business and functional-specific requirements with a enterprise-wide data model.
*Translation from initial business requirements to high level data model specifications, data flow diagrams, and attributed logical entity relationship diagrams.
*Develop and document extensions to the common conceptual and logical data models.
*Communicate enterprise data model designs to cross-functional groups and senior subject matter experts.

Skills Required

*Significant experience with the data models required for the representation and storage of trades and positions in multiple businesses, plus ability to translate those concepts to any other business domain.
*Must be an expert in the Trade Capture, Risk or Subledger functions of at least one asset class or business line, including detailed knowledge of typical trading scenarios. Must also have multiple years experience in at least one other asset area.
*Business areas of required knowledge (the candidate must have at least 2), in priority order: Interest Rate Derivs, Consolidated Derivative Risk, Equity Derivs, Equity Structured Notes, Credit Derivs, FX Options, Cash Bonds, SPVs, Debt Issuance, FID Structured Notes, Equity Swaps, Commodities, Structured Products, and Equity Cash.
*Strong Business Analysis and requirements gathering skills.
*Strong experience in performing data modeling studies and developing detailed data models.
*Must be able to recognize and identify patterns in data relationships from disparate systems.
*Strong experience in transforming business requirements into conceptual and logical models.
*Previous experience of working with object oriented analysis and design.
*Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
*Good background working with complex data schemas.
*Excellent oral and written communication skills.
*Excellent visual information design skills (e.g. Instance Diagrams data-oriented usecases)

Skills Desired
*Candidates with expert level experience in modeling for a larger number of financial asset classes will have an advantage over those with less broad knowledge.
*Knowledge of finance and operational Subledger functions, ideally from direct BA experience of those functions.
*E-R diagramming abilities (e.g. in ERWin or UML in Visio), including the translation of business analysis to Logical Entity Relationship diagrams. Conversion to Physical Entity-Relationship
*Provide overall leadership in data modeling solutions across heterogeneous systems.
*Able to influence external teams to conform to, or enhance, the model, and determine appropriate solutions.
*Development experience in functional (e.g. Scala) and object oriented (Java/C++) programming languages is desirable. Object-oriented analysis and design experience is desirable.
*Data development experience with SQL on DB2 or Sybase is desirable.
*A Working knowledge of IBM’s Universal Data Model for Financial Services is desirable.
