Data Center Cable/Connectivity Engineer Job in Pleasanton, California Us

This role will lead the planning, design, engineering, configuration, and implementation of network and telephony cabling infrastructure for Kaiser's Pleasanton Data Center. This includes performing network connectivity needs assessment, engineering and design and infrastructure validation. Work closely with other IT Project Managers, Storage, Platforms, and Network team members, application vendors, and other technical resources to analyze business and technical requirements. Ensure the Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) of the Data network cable/fiber services. This position will also provide guidance, consultation and oversight to engineering colleagues and for additional data centers in the national portfolio.
Essential Functions:
- Develop Cable designs for new Data Center and existing facilities both inside and outside plant.
- Document engineering standards and proposals/recommendations for cable plant designs and room layouts
- Layout IT rooms in an architectural scaled format.
- Write scope of work documents for projects and all supporting documentation as required.
- Provide QA/QC of cabling as it is being installed by making regular site visits.
-Develop and manage project teams and resources in area of responsibility.
- Work with network and cabling engineering firms and installers technical staff,
and vendors to develop and implement projects.
-Research, evaluate, and recommend new tools and technologies
- Assess emerging technologies and make recommendations to information technology management. Strict adherence to labeling, inventory control and documentation of cable plant is a key accountability of this role.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field or 4 years of equivalent work experience.
- 8 or more years of experience working in an Information Technology field
- 6 or more years of inside and outside cable plant design.
- 3-5 year of cabling and connectivity design for Data Centers
- Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.
- Ability to use AutoCad and Visio to produce required documentation.
- Knowledge of EIA/TIA standards as well.
- Knowledge different Categories and types of copper cabling.
- Knowledge of different types of fiber cabling and connectors.
- Able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and propose effective solutions.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to write detailed, complex documents for technical and non-technical audiences.- Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to learn independently, research products and technologies, and to problem solve as well as to assume a technical leadership role as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of different type of network equipment most common used by Kaiser will be Cisco.
- Basic knowledge of network topologies.
- Demonstrate technical excellence, including industry related certifications.
- Building Industry Consultant Services International (Bicsi) member.
- Experience working in and around the healthcare environment.
