Position Summary:
Design, implementation and hands on operational supervision and management of The company’s core voice data network. The ability and skill set to analyze current future requirements of the network in a collaborative team environment, in addition to the day to day management of the network.
Essential Responsibilities: Network Operations Technical Support
IP Network Engineering –
· Design and implementation of IP transport network systems to support IP Telephony utilizing QoS methodology.
· IP transport systems to support critical data payloads used for signaling: MEGACO/H.248 Call Control, SIP, TALI signaling, EMS/NMS DB server to element communication paths, remote access network and private business LAN.
· Design and implementation of IP Routing within the internal network using Open Shortest Path First (OSPF).
· Design and implementation of peering IP networks using BGP and MPLS. This includes inter-communication, requirements, interconnection methods and arrangements, contact lists and negotiations.
· Specs for new services, identifying areas of improvement, and developing/implementing acceptance testing plans.
· Determine equipment to meet specified requirements and make PO requisitions.
· Complete and maintain network topology documents and diagrams.
Security Access –
Manage access to and protect the network from intentional and accidental abuse, unauthorized access, and communication loss.
Utilizing IP tunneling methods such as VPN, IPSec and/or other access control methods such Access Control List, Network and Port Address Translations (NAT and PAT respectively), etc.
Fault Management –
Monitoring status of network, including internal Compass Trouble Ticket resolution and contacting external vendor TAC support for more involved or outage situations that require support.
Devising short term workarounds, trouble shooting, and correcting fault conditions.
Computing Systems and Applications Servers Management –
· Manage network computing hardware elements including: Sun/UNIX or LINUX OS, IBM/LINUX OS and Windows servers.
· Accessing/Programming voice and data application servers via the company or serial connections to command line and/or graphical user interfaces.
· Configuration, operation and maintenance of Session Border Controllers (SBC’s), SIP Application Servers, Media Gateway Controllers, Domain Name Servers (DNS), Radius Servers.
· Scripting programs to automate configuration/provisioning of services.
· Designing routines that run diagnostic scans and report/notify of system alarms.
· Schedule/perform hardware/software/OS upgrades as required to keep all computer systems running at peak performance and reduce system sensitivity to bugs/errors.
· Perform periodic backups and provide procedures for disaster recovery and network survivability.
Respond to trouble calls and ensure identification and resolution of network and customer issues on a 24/7 basis
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 10 years in a telecommunications environment
- College degree or equivalent experience
- IP Network certification – CCNA, CCNP
- Working knowledge of telecommunications networks and systems.
- Flexibility to work during The company maintenance windows.
- Specific knowledge and experience in the following disciplines: soft-switch/signaling, transport systems and IP services.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Familiarity with the following protocols: SIP, TCP/IP, SS7, PRI
Work Environment
Base of Operations will be the Troy Corporate Office. Rotating schedule of Telecommuting will be provided this will be based on a minimum expectation of 60% in the corporate office; this will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. Commitment to availability at key business hours of operations, which is 8:00am-6:00pm, in addition to having an open line of communication when and if working from a remote location. Requirements of onsite organizational meetings; where a physical presence is required. Physical Demands: The physical demands of this position include sitting for extended periods of time, exceptional hearing, and written, visual and verbal communications ability. Note: Moderate physical activity to include ability to lift 50 pounds.
