My client, a world-leading asset management firm, is looking for a Research Data Manager to be the point of contact for Analysts, Portfolio Managers in Asia Pacific ex Japan and be responsible for the research related applications and systems particularly for Research Management Systems and Modelling Valuation systems.
The successful candidate will liaise with the APAC equity research teams and systems groups to assist the application development, implementation and support for Asia Pacific.
Responsibilities:
Be the point of contact for Portfolio Managers in Asia x Jap for:
- Project: RMS (Research Management Systems): how to get the most out of it, customization/set up
- Project: MV (Modeling Valuation): customization / ad hoc data reports
- Generally act as the conduit between equity users and IT
- Achieve and maintain high level of data quality in MV database
- Establish consistency in key financial ratios across sectors and regions
- Be expert user of MV, RMS and RAS tooling, including the admin functionality
- Outline and realise, through Technology, the functionality roadmap of business requirements
- Establish strong relationships with Analysts, Directors of Research, Portfolio Managers, Data provider (internal external) and Technology
- Control the structure and validation of the dataload templates (the templates used by analysts to load data into the MV database)
- Control calculations/aggregations set up in MV system
- Facilitation of requirements gathering for technology deliverables
- Become the central go-to person within the equity business globally for Equity Data requests and system enhancement requests.
- Ensure consistent use / correct flow of data between MV, RMS, RAS platforms.
Work with analysts to ensure data quality is correct:
- Set up and run report on exceptions / data quality and follow up with analysts
- Manage layout of templates and make sure all the new calculations requirements are correctly reflected and functioning well in the systems
- Prepare regular reports per the users’ requirement – either weekly or monthly.
- Respond to data queries from end users
- Prepare requested data extracts for analysts and portfolio managers
- Configure data load templates
- Configure datatables loaded into Authoring products
- Facilitate requirement gathering process
- Communicate changes/decisions/issues with key stakeholders within Equity research
- Work with Research Directors / Heads of Research to implement changes to analysis/investment approach that need to be reflected in the systems
- Design, run and follow up on data validation reports
- Deal with 3rd party data providers (vendors/brokers)
- User training / new joiner on-boarding
- Work with Technology teams on requirements, issues, deployments, etc
Work with IT:
- Be close to the users so there is an awareness of all issues
- Specify new pre-canned reports
- Requirements specification
- Liaise with other Super users and Technology on prioritization of requirements/bug fixes
- Test and sign off on any changes
- Communicate any changes to the local user base
Your skills and experience:
- Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in application support with experience in delivering and supporting all needs of a regional office, including provision of application and infrastructure ‘high touch’ end user support service to all levels including executives.
- Team Lead or management experience required
- Strong technical understanding of application support needs for a regional office.
- Extremely client focused the candidate must be able to understand and pro-actively meet client needs.
- Experience in managing critical application projects for clients and being accountable to management.
- Experience in managing a critical services with knowledge of safe change management process and how to pro-actively avoid outages and issues.
- Excellent analytical problem solving skills, able to breakdown complex data and display logical thinking in order to manage content and data.
- Excellent communication skills and experience in providing management reporting
- Well organised self-starter with good attention to detail and project management experience.
- Strong technical understanding of systems and application architecture.
- CFA and or HKSI qualifications are highly desirable
