Data Support Production Engineer recruitment

The Aladdin trading and risk management system, used
internally at BlackRock and by BlackRock Solutions clients, enables
customers to manage over $5 trillion in financial assets. Aladdin
is central to our technology strategy, unifying BlackRock by
providing everyone with a common language and a central point of
reference for our investment activities globally.

The Aladdin and Application Engineering teams within the Aladdin
Technology group use the latest technologies to design and
develop applications that make up the firm's investment management
platform. The systems support the full lifecycle of the investment
management process, from quantitative risk management to order
entry, trade routing and settlement.

The Distribution Solutions (DS)
IT team provides a wide range of support and maintenance services
for of an extensive set of web and windows based applications which
make up an application portfolio used by the iShares, Cash,
Institutional and retail business areas around the
globe.

As part of this global
organization the DS Application Support team provides a first line
support and maintenance service to ensure the application suite is
available when required and can be relied upon to provide the
required level of service to the business.

Role
Responsibility

 

Overview:  The
Distributions Solutions Application Support team is seeking to hire
a talented Data Support Engineer to work within our Global
Production Support team to develop a strong production support,
maintenance and continuous improvement capability for the ongoing
support of our internal and external data-based applications and
web sites. 

 

Our sites and web applications
are designed to deliver financial data and tools which enable our
customers to make informed investment decisions.  This role is
as a member of an established global team where the individual will
be focused mainly on responding to production support data
management issues, analyzing and identifying data flow problems and
debugging Informatica mappings and workflows.  In addition,
the candidate will be able to debug SQL, and shell script problems.
Small project work will also be assigned. 

 

The individual will be required
to understand data flows, XML messages and complex SQL.  The
individual should be very comfortable in unix environment and be
able to read and understand Korn shell scripts, and should have
expert understanding of database tables and
design.  

Our data sources include a
variety of internal and external feeds and services, BlackRock
global XML messages and BlackRock resident data systems like the
Post Processing warehouse and as such the individual must be able
to develop relationships and work collaboratively with business
partners and also with supporting systems operational
groups.

Key Job
Responsibilities:
• Analysis and resolution of all data
related production issues
• Work within the existing application support team to help
identify root cause of issues, remedial action and long term
prevention.
• Identify and implement long term improvement activities to
continuously improve the service provided to the business
• Participate in the full lifecycle of ETL software development as
appropriate
• Help troubleshoot, and optimize data integration processes.
• Prepare/maintain documentation on all aspects of ETL processes to
support knowledge transfer to other team members.
• Analyze data using SQL, Excel and other tools.
• Ensure that all timelines of loading/validating data are met.
• Build strong relationships with the business through delivery,
communication and domain knowledge.
• Provide on-call support for all business applications and
websites supported by the team

 

Experience

 

Skills/Requirements: -
Required
- Candidates should have experience in some of the following XML
(e.g. Schema), ETL Tools (preferably Informatica)
- SQL experience (Sybase / MS SQL Server preferred)
- Excellent communication skills, strong teamwork and time
management abilities are a must.

Skills/Requirements: - Strongly
desired
- Java Skills - J2EE Application Server (e.g. JBOSS, Weblogic),
Spring, Hibernate, Struts / Taglibs / JSP,
- Previous experience of working in a high performing support
environment
- Experience, and an interest in the Financial sector preferable,
but top notch candidates who tick all the boxes
