The Job
You think the proliferation of data and data visualization tools makes this an incredible time to be working in this field. A new d3 api or dataset means a new experiment or personal project. The clear communication of what data can tell us about the world is your playground. You have strong opinions about the use of data visualization to misrepresent the facts.
You love the power and flexibility of CSS, but have fully embraced the extra power that tools like SCSS provide. You remember what life was like before CSS variables, nested rules and mixins, and are glad you never have to go back. You've been happily extracting your favorite tricks and effects into a modular, gracefully degradable toolbox that let you get each new project looking great faster than the last.
You have a cautious yet deep respect for Javascript and even the DOM. You know its flaws and misgivings and work around them rather than complaining. Heaps of vanilla-js experience needed as well.
General knowledge of and opinions on the best tools and practices for data visualization: frameworks, structure, design and the rest. Contributions to open-source projects and personal projects matter more than education.
You want to help build the internal views of data that make our mission possible. Working closely with the Data and Internal Engineering teams to supply the company with cogent views of everything we do, you make it possible for us to have a measurable, positive impact on the lives of people. You think you can fix banking.
Location
Simple is based in Portland, Oregon. Relocation assistance is available and remote work is possible. Unfortunately, we can not support international applicants at this time.
