JOB SUMMARY:

The Manager of the Database Administration team is responsible for the leadership of people and management of projects with accountabilities for associate development, technical architecture strategy and enablement, resource and capital planning, project planning and delivery, and product stewardship. The incumbent works closely with technical and development teams to apply knowledge of database products to solve business problems.  The individual must:

·         understand SNI’s technical operations and interactions between departments and maintain a functional proficiency in standard software, hardware and related database technologies; 

·         be able to explain complex information in an understandable way and productively challenge database designs by adherence to standards and best practices;

·         maintain strong relationships with infrastructure and development personnel and ensure that the database team contributes as productive team members with other areas; and

·         work effectively in both strategic and tactical areas by balancing long term objectives with short term needs and demonstrates strong diagnosis and problem solving skills along with exceptional judgment and decisiveness.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Leads a technical team of associates and variable contract resources in database management activities including, but not limited to:  database design, implementation, performance tuning, database configuration, SQL and query optimization, database maintenance and system monitoring.

·         Manage multiple projects to deliver high quality solutions that meet the technical and business requirements, deliver on schedule and within budget. Collaborates with other managers regarding dependencies across projects.

·         Develops resource plans and identifies responsibilities of project team members for project assignments.  Assign project resources to project tasks, clearly setting expectations of task completion requirements.

·         Communicate project status directly to customers/business sponsors and IT Leadership through status reports, weekly meetings, and any other communication tools.

·         Lead quality assurance function for solutions produced by project teams to ensure adherence to quality standards.  Review and approve deliverables and work products prior to milestone passage.

·         Responsible for managing performance and recognition of team members including pro-actively working with team members towards achieving their career goals/ objectives, conducting timely performance appraisal, midyear reviews and goal setting meetings.

 

·         Participate in compensation management, recruiting, interviewing, budgeting, quality improvement, and capital equipment processes.

 

·         Remain current with advances in technology, changes in the transportation and logistics industries, Oracle product suite, and general business developments.

 

·         Participate in the prioritization of current and future tasks, balance priorities against system support needs and resource projects based on best skill set match and business objectives.

 

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

1.     Bachelor or Master’s Degree with technology related emphasis, or related field or equivalent work experience

2.     Demonstrated leadership skill with minimum of 7 years experience leading and developing effective technical teams in highly complex Oracle database environment in the areas of database design, implementation, performance tuning and support of enterprise Oracle application systems including EBS, Siebel and/or OTM.

3.     Experience with Oracle 11g database architecture including knowledge of high availability and clustering RAC configurations, Data Guard, RMAN backup/ recovery and  Oracle Enterprise Monitoring

4.     Experience with Oracle Middleware products such as SOA, ODI, UCM and Weblogic Server is beneficial,

5.     An in-depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques for managing activities involved in planning and executing database development projects.

6.     Analytical, results oriented with ability and willingness to move with a sense of urgency.

7.     Ability to plan, organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects with attention to detail.

8.     Experience in change management with ability to articulate clear vision of need for change, the recommended change, the benefits of the change and expected results.

9.     Strong leadership with the ability to coach, develop, and direct technical associates and influence senior leaders.

10.   Strong communication, critical thinking, and planning skills.
