Database Administrator  Developer Opportunity at the Restaurant Support Center in Los Angeles, CA

Overall Responsibilities

Responsible for all of California Pizza Kitchen’s database servers, databases, data storage, data integration, and data processes. The Database Administrator/Developer will manage, administer, maintain, and support California Pizza Kitchen’s data infrastructure, and ensure the highest level of data availability, data integrity, and data system performance. This position will analyze, design, develop, monitor, and support critical technical processes (ETL, data acquisition, data processing, and system integration) and reports that have high impact to business operations and information delivery.  This individual will interact with clients and vendors to gather, analyze, influence, and document detailed requirements to engineer effective technical solutions. He/she will provide user support for existing business applications and reporting systems. This position will help institute and execute a structured IT data management practice.

• Serve as the primary administrator of all company databases including the data warehouse, operational data store, Master Data, ETL framework, and all application and BI databases.
• Ensure data completeness and data quality during data acquisition and processing. This includes a variety of internal and external data sources and channels, including OLTP applications, Web applications, ftp, web services, email, and database level replication.
• Monitor the execution of all SQL jobs and data processes and respond to all issues impacting data systems. Troubleshoot complex technical and performance issues to resolution.
• Optimize storage, database, table, and query configurations for high performance and stability, e.g. volume sizing, memory management, partitioning, file groups, indexing, query execution plan review and tuning, statistic updates, etc…
• Design, develop, and support complex technical processes and reports using SQL objects (tables, views, triggers, stored procedures, DTS and SSIS packages, etc…) to support business requirements and data integration.
• Monitor and maintain database storage to ensure uninterrupted services for critical systems. Work closely with Infrastructure team to analyze, document, and address storage growth needs.
• Speak with clients and vendors to understand requirements, and translate them into technical specifications that enable the development of high quality solutions.
• Contribute heavily in developing California Pizza Kitchen’s new enterprise data warehouse. Help execute significant projects on the EDW roadmap.
• Migrate, reengineer, and converge legacy operational processes to a new data infrastructure.
• Assist migrating legacy server and database platforms. Build and configure new database servers. Implement new technology, utility and business applications with database requirements.
• Provide recovery support during data center, server, and network outages. Communicate and meet SLA’s during outages. Must be able to provide after hour and weekend support as required.
• Execute a maintenance cadence to prevent unplanned outages and degraded performance. Revise the established maintenance cadence documentation and procedures as required.
• Maintain documentation of physical schema, SQL objects, and data dictionaries.
• Monitor and test database backups and snapshots. Perform restores for fault recovery, test/development environment setup, or disaster recovery testing.
• Manage database security according to security best practices and department policies.
• Perform testing and change management according to defined department procedures.
• Maintain project management and process documentation as required.
• Evolve, grow, and help institute the tools California Pizza Kitchen leverages to enable efficient data operations.
• Apply and promote established principles, methodologies, procedures, and standards with regard to data management, data architecture, and development.
• Assist in developing, supporting, and delivering business and technical reports.
• Engage in knowledge transfer with fellow team members regularly.

Qualifications

• A professional and pleasant demeanor.
• 3-5 years experience as a Database Administrator in an enterprise environment, supporting SQL Server 2000, 2005, and 2008 enterprise editions with large data volumes on a SAN infrastructure (experience with NetApp preferred).
• 3-5 years experience building, configuring, operating, tuning, troubleshooting, and supporting a complex SQL data infrastructure on Windows servers. Experience in a virtual (VMWare) environment desired.
• 3-5 years experience developing ETL processes, Data Transformation Services (DTS), Integration Services (SSIS), Analysis Services (SSAS), T-SQL, and complex stored procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of Ethernet network technologies, concepts, principles, and hardware.
• Must have excellent analytical capability to comprehend and address business and technical challenges.
• Must have excellent communication skills and be adept to documenting as part of communication.
• Experience developing and supporting reports in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) preferred.
• Source-to-target mapping experience desired. Data modeling experience a plus.
• Knowledgeable of EDW and BI technologies, concepts, and principles including ODS, data marts, relational models, dimensional models, OLAP/HOLAP/ROLAP, conformed dimensions, and SCD’s.
• Knowledgeable of Data Governance concepts such as Data Quality, Data Integrity, Data Structure, Data Architecture, Data Security, Master Data, and Meta Data (process, technical, business).
• Microsoft .Net development experience a plus (ASP, VB, or C#).
• Able to work well independently and in a team setting. Effective at knowledge transfer with team.
• Must be self-directed in assessing, tracking, prioritizing, and completing tasks and projects on time.
• Practical experience with project management, change management, and systems development cycles.
• Prior restaurant, retail, or hospitality industry experience a plus (or similarly distributed business model).
 

Work Environment and Physical Demand

 While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to computer terminals. The noise level and temperature is moderate. Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for up to 10 hours a day. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend or kneel, lift up to 40 lbs. and perform other diverse physical tasks as needed. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
