Database Administrator Job

Overall purpose of role:

This position will be primarily focused in the day-to-day administrative and operational tasks of managing and supporting a large, transaction-intensive database environment. Our team utilises its talents to find real working solutions to real world problems dealing with high network throughput, voluminous database access, redundancy, security, financial transaction processing, compression, and data archival and backup, among other issues.


You will need to be based in Dublin, Ireland for a significant portion of this contract. Please only apply if you are able to be based in Dublin when required.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

* Identifying and correcting performance issues, reviewing systems and error logs, storage management, backups, job monitoring, optimisation efforts, data integrity analysis and resolving database contention issues

* Supporting development efforts including specifying requirements, developing test plans, setting up test environments including generating test data and data migration, creating/modifying tables, views, stored procedures, and triggers, developing ad-hoc queries and reports

* Designing database schemas and managing object permissions and accesses

* You will have a well rounded background in the principles of software design and implementation

* Proficiency in a broad array of technical skills including, operating systems, networking, databases, data structures and commercial application development

* Ability to work with large complex systems and develop new enhancements

* Develop design specifications, author internal documentation and participate in the review of these documents

Skills/Experience required:

* 5+ years (total) software experience

* 4 years minimum SQL Server experience with a strong relational database background

* BSc degree in EE/CS/Computer Engineering required; MS degree preferred, or relevant work experience

* Excellent performance tuning and optimisation skills

* Solid experience with disaster recovery methods and capacity planning

* Worked in a very large database environment

* Some data modelling experience

* SQL Server clustering

* T-SQL savvy

* Data warehouse experience, a plus

* Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2005 experience

* Common sense and trustworthiness

* Ability to work well with other highly talented individuals
