Duties Responsibilities: This person will work as a database administrator within the Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) Database Management Group. The primary focus will be to support the databases and applications for multiple environments, RAC, DataGuard, Weblogic and Apache.
Technical responsibilities include database installations, upgrades and patches to Oracle products and environments; manage multiple development, test and production environments; address issues, such as; security; monitoring; performance tuning; analysis and design, and application release management. Client support requires analysis, recommendations and solutions for creating, upgrading, integrating, and managing database systems in a distributed environment. They will work within the existing structures and protocols and make recommendations as necessary. Develop solid working relationships with customers, staff, management, consultants and vendors.
As a member of the Harvard community, this individual will work collaboratively with all existing teams. Being a strong team player is very important.

Basic Qualifications: A degree in computer science, computer information systems or mathematics and/or equivalent work experience. 3-5 years experience as a DBA supporting Oracle database environments in a large, complex data center environment, managing multiple database platforms on a wide variety of operating systems. Solid working experience with Oracle databases in both development and production environments; Project Management experience is a plus.
Must have hands-on experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers using Oracle 11g and Application Servers (Weblogic). Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices. In-depth technical knowledge of operating systems, including Wintel, Linux and Sun Solaris, as they relate to database environments. Provide general on-call support for database and other issues. Keep current with emerging technology and trends for applications and databases. Provide guidance to HUIT clients, building awareness of database best practices and operational procedures. Additional Qualifications: Knowledge of MS SQLServer and MySQL helpful. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong technical documentation skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to conduct research into database and application issues, standards and products as required. Highly self motivated and directed. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. In cooperation with system and application owners, recommend, schedule and apply database fixes, security patches, and disaster recovery procedures. Work collaboratively with the System Administrators and the NOC team.
