Summary

As Spot Trading continues to assert itself as a smart, technology-focused option trading firm, the Technology group strives to provide the technology that will keep the firm ahead of the curve in providing a stable, redundant and highly available database infrastructure.

Spot is currently seeking a Database Administrator to join the Data Technology group. This role is primarily focused on Microsoft SQL Server databases. The Database Administrator will work under the Lead Database Architect, and with Quantitative, Research, Development and Technology teams to build and maintain various data-related solutions. The ideal candidate will have excellent problem solving skills, keen attention to detail, willingness to deliver solutions of the highest quality, and good understanding of query optimization. The Database Administrator will get an opportunity to work with Big Data technology as well as other emerging and proprietary technologies. This role will divide time between writing and reviewing SQL code, maintaining and managing MS SQL databases, and supporting the database infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Review SQL Server stored procedures and execution plans. Implement indexes for optimization.

• Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements

• Monitor database maintenance plans and SQL Server Agent jobs

• Develop and maintain live snapshots for production

• Manage database backups and ensure that Disaster Recovery and Data Retention protocols are adhered to

• Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues

• Manage security at all levels of SQL Server

• Work with the IT Operations / development teams for database upgrades and releases

• Participate actively in documentation process

• Ability to multi-task

Qualifications:

• Hands-on SQL Server 2005/2008 administration, database tuning and troubleshooting experience

• Strong analytical skills and excellent problem solving skills

• 3 to 6 years database administration experience, preferably in a financial environment (bank, hedge fund, trading firm, etc)

• Linux admin experience is a plus

• Good knowledge of SQL language

• Advanced knowledge of database operations (Backups/Restores, Security)

• Advanced skill set on database performance (tuning/indexing)

• Ability to communicate with developers as well as management

• Excellent documentation and knowledge management skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field from an accredited institution
