Our candidate will need to provide 24/7 database administration support for SQL Server and Netezza database platforms. SQL Server and Netezza databases are key components of many of clients core business functions including reservations, sales, property management and loyalty applications.
Purpose: To provide 24/7 operational support of Relational Database Management System (Primarily: SQL Server and Netezza, Secondarily: Oracle and UDB) on Open Systems Database Platform (Windows and UNIX). Work closely with application developers, Tier 1 (Service Desk), other Tier 2 operational support staff, and Tier 3 (Engineering) teams. Perform rotational on-call incident response duties and off-hours change support as required.
Customers/
Able to provide around the clock (24/7) database support for production database and application related issues as well as supporting development activities in various test and development environments. This includes performance monitoring and tuning, size estimating, and thorough knowledge of SQL.

Create and implement standards and procedures as they relate to use of database products to assist applications developers, database analysts, and other partners in their efforts to meet business customer expectations in regards to accessing and utilizing customer information.
Incident and problem management of operational issues where database platforms are either impacted or suspected as root cause.
Work with applications developers, database analysts, and other partners to troubleshoot and/or implement product features.
Provide performance analysis and tuning to ensure database products operate above minimum customer performance requirements.
Restore or recover data or databases that have experienced corruption.
Ensure that quality and standards meet defined expectations.
Support SQL tuning efforts.
Support ongoing application changes and upgrades.
Script repetitive administrative activities following standard scripting practices, error handling, error proofing, and user friendly interface design.
Delegate repetitive technical operational tasks (installs, recycles, maintenance, etc.) to our partners, specifically Tier 1 and Application Services teams.
Ensure that the technical processes are in to robustly monitor database products and product interfaces to such a degree that potential incident or problems are, ideally, indicated and addressed before they actually occur.
Ensure that identified health-checks are performed in meaningful intervals and have both timely and appropriate response procedures.
Routinely review metrics with regard to on-call activity and seek ways to improve support procedures such that repeat incidents are minimized or eliminated altogether.
Areas of Responsibility: The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Netezza (or comparable Warehouse experience), as well as Windows and UNIX operating system skills. Must also be proficient in backup, recovery, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.

Technical Qualifications Education Required:
Technical Skills/Computer: Thorough knowledge of SQL Server and Netezza (or comparable Warehouse) database platforms. Proficiency working in Windows and UNIX Operating Systems.
Technical Skills/Other: Shell scripting skills. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Excellent people skills and ability to work well with customers and team.

Education/Experience: BS in Computer Systems with 2-5 years experience or 5-10 years operational relational database, and warehouse work experience.
