General Overview Working under the general direction of the Manager of Business Intelligence within the MGPO Finance Info Systems Business Intelligence department, the Database Architect is responsible for the design, and optimization of the Massachusetts General Physician Organization?s Data Warehouses and Data Marts. This position will be actively involved in the design, review and maintenance of database structures, ETL and query optimization, and data management. This position will work collaboratively with the Data Warehouse other Database Architect to ensure high levels of availability and accuracy Major Duties Primary Responsibilities: Define Data Standards and models for warehouse activities Design, implement and deploy complex data models (relational or dimensional) to support BI initiatives using Cognos Framework Manager or Transformer Develop, publish and deploy Cognos cubes according to business requirements Identify inefficiencies and gaps in current data warehouses and leverage solutions Diagnose and resolve Cognos application access and performance issues, including individual reports Develop and maintain relevant documentation to ensure consistent and up to date content. Coordinate and work with other BI staff to develop and enforce quality assurance policies and procedures. Contribute to the research and selection of data warehouse products, services, protocols, and standards in support of development efforts. Provide second tier user support for business authors and report developers. Assist with the scheduling, distribution, bursting and refreshing of corporate content Assist other Database Architect with design and build physical database environments from table, column, index and view definitions to storage requirements and drive spacing and growth accommodations. Assist other Database Architect with Design and implementation of ETL solutions for extraction and integration of data to and from data warehouses and data marts for the purposes of reporting, decision support and analysis. Work on optimization and tuning of data loads, extractions and recommending appropriate procedure, query or package changes and optimizations to ensure and improve system performance and reliability Work collaboratively with the others on the Data Management team to implement the physical data model for the development and / or production environments. Stay abreast of market developments, tools and strategies in the data management space Work with developers or vendors as necessary to resolve issues Work collaboratively with the BI administrator, developers and PHS IS teams to ensure BI solution accuracy, performance and to viability Work closely with developers, vendors, and people from the server, network, and SAN teams to ensure best practices for the design, integrity, and performance of systems Manage assigned projects and resolve or escalate issues to the appropriate level of management Evaluate existing and alternate software applications and analyze upgrade requirements and impacts Participate as team member in Business Intelligence initiatives as the Data Architecture expert Skills/Abilities/Competencies Supports and demonstrates the values of the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Massachusetts Physicians Organization by conducting activities in an ethical manner with integrity, honesty, and confidentiality. Exhibits sound judgment, obtains the facts, examines options, gains support, and achieves positive outcomes Highly self-motivated/disciplined, performs role with minimal supervision, notice or direction to identify and resolve problems and complete work An expertise in MS SQL Server data warehousing and data mining concepts including but not limited to: star schemas, snowflakes, ETL processes, dimensional modeling and reporting tools is needed Understanding of business intelligence concepts as well as accounting/finance knowledge in the healthcare industry is preferred; experience with PeopleSoft and Cognos BI a plus Must be deadline oriented Qualifications Candidate should have a BS preferably in the area of computer science 10+ years of IT and Data Analysis, Data Management Experience, Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Data Architecture, Enterprise Data Management, Data Modeling - Conceptual, Logical, SDLC, Business Process Modeling. Extensive experience in SQL Server (or Oracle) database administration in a Windows server environment required 6+years experience in design and development using the Cognos BI platform, Business Intelligence tools, Framework Manager, Transformer, Report Studio, Analysis Studio, etc. 4+years experience in data architecture and modeling?dimensional databases, normalized versus denormalized data, trending data capture technologies, etc. Expertise working with high volume, partitioned data databases; with performance tuning and development skills; and a strong knowledge of Data Warehousing methodologies and concepts is required Ability to monitor and tune application SQL query performance for production applications Demonstrated knowledge through work experience in architecting and oversight of Data Warehouses, Data Marts, Operational Data Stores and associated front-end technologies Experience in current trends in technologies, tools and methods in the business intelligence space is a must Be able to solve complex business problems through innovative technology solutions at an enterprise level Possess relevant experience in transaction and information systems, ETL and Data Integration Tools, data warehouses, data marts, ODS, MDM, BPM and SOA Excellent verbal and written communication skills and willingness to act as team player; sharing information willingly and accurately. Working Environment The MGPO Finance Systems department is located in the Charlestown Navy Yard campus The work environment is very busy and dynamic The employee is required to travel to any Partners? facilities to attend offsite meetings. This includes travel to new client sites. Staff is very collaborative and work together to solve issues
