Database Developer
My client seeks an individual who will have a significant role within the group that develops our referential database and its related systems. The group*s responsibilities include building the systems that handle over a million trade-able assets, comprising feeds from more than 50 exchanges, clearing houses and data providers. These systems provide customers, internal systems, and proprietary trading groups with the information required to execute trades and to evaluate and price assets. This is an opportunity to develop a broad understanding of both the trading mechanics and fundamentals of financial instruments as well as familiarity with operator large scale databases. The system provides information to the high-performance trading and brokerage system for which the company is known throughout the industry.
In addition, the group develops web-based applications to support operational services including processing of corporate actions and derivative adjustments. These tools are used by the operators within the group and by other groups within the firm. These will offer extensive opportunities to develop skills in middle-tier frameworks.
Duties for this position will include the design, development, and support of perl, java and Oracle-based batch processing applications, as well as database design and development. A successful candidate will also be highly analytical and adept at solving complex problems.
Applicants should have a Bachelors degree in Engineering or Science and at least two years of professional programming experience. Extensive knowledge of perl, SQL, PL/SQL, Java, object-oriented software design, and relational database design is required. Experience with Oracle database servers, EJB servers and java-based middleware is a plus.
Required Skills
Very strong Perl or other scripting Skills is required for this role
* Strong object-oriented design skills.
* Very solid understanding of SQL and relational database design (experience with Oracle is a plus).
* Perl programming skills, ideally with object-oriented perl.
* Familiarity with Eclipse, Apache, Tomcat, JBoss and ability to configure an application server.
* Strong multitasking, time management, team work and analytical problem-solving skills are required.
Required Experience
* Minimum 5 years work experience in software development.
* Minimum 5 year work experience using Java, JDBC and SQL.
* Experience working with a Linux environment.
