DB2/2 Database Administrator (DBA)

Global Science Technology, Inc., a fast growing high technology firm, is seeking a DB/2 Database Administrator (DBA) to provide services under general supervision for multiple projects by following WVOT’s project methodology for a major governmental agency client as a preferred vendor to the State of WV. The databases are extremely important to their production legacy systems.

The position is a long term engagement located in Charleston, WV.

Brief Summary of Position: The DBA will provide services under general supervision for multiple projects by following WVOT’s project methodology. The databases that WVOT is responsible for includes: 5 small databases; 8 medium databases and 7 large databases.  These databases are used in a mixture of systems that includes but is not inclusive: CICS/COBOL, Batch COBOL, and WEB based.

Primary Duties:

·         Modify/Create/Maintain  Stored Procedures using Data Studio and COBOL

·         Modify/Create Complex SQL Statements

·         Create/Modify DB2 objects

·         Determine logic from existing SQL Statements

·         Assess and implement database tuning processes

·         Lead the Workflow Update Processes

·         Data management and data problem resolution

·         Other project support primarily related to data and data infrastructure

·         Provide daily status updates  on assigned tasks

·         Address issues and change requests according to the project management methodology

·         Some work will be performed outside of normal business work hours

 

Experience/Knowledge Required:

·         Extensive knowledge of DB2 v9 for z/OS.  Minimum of 3 current years DBA experience (only IBM Mainframe DB2 DBA experience will be considered acceptable) 

·         Minimum of 2 current years’ experience in DB2 V9 for z/OS

·         Exposure to Microsoft Visio to document databases

·         Experience Creating and Maintaining Tables, Indexes, Constraints, and Triggers

·         Experience with designing, developing, and implementing database applications

·         Willingness to work under current DBA’s direction

·         Ability to translate complex technical information into easily understandable language/documentation

·         Ability to review systems analysis documents and create a logical and physical database design

·         Ability to work in a team environment.  This position requires the DBA to work closely and support peer-DBAs, systems analysts, and application developers in order to design and develop the most efficient databases possible for the organization

·         Any candidate must show a willingness to accept a variety of assignments (including analysis and maintenance) with equal enthusiasm

 

Education Level Required: A Bachelor’s degree with appropriate years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.  Preference will be given to candidates with an industry standard certification.
