The Company

DBA Database Administrator - Oracle / SQL Server - Investment Bank - City of London - £50,000-£75,000/Annum

Robert Half Technology are working with a rapidly expanding global investment bank, providing international investment across the globe. This new role reports into the Global Database Systems Manager, will comprise responsibility for support of mission critical databases database engineering projects globally.

The Role

The position will require a highly skilled DBA / Database Administrator with expert knowledge across BOTH Oracle MS SQL Server. Main responsibilities within the role include Oracle MS SQL databases maintenance support. This will include remote 1st - 3rd line support of mission critical databases in London other locations in a follow the sun support model. The Database Administrator will take on pro-active monitoring, performance tuning, query optimisation, will run all standard Database Administration (DBA) tasks, like performing database backups recovery, managing database users security, etc. This hire will be centrally involved with more complex tasks including database index design tuning; implementation maintenance of database security based on established security policy; DR development/planning; backup policy implementation/support; new solutions research development; architecture design, planning, deployment; multiple projects.

The successful Database Administrator will have expert knowledge of Oracle 10g/11g MS SQL 2005/2008. They will have worked as a Senior DBA for 5 years at least in financial services have expert knowledge of configuration tuning Oracle, expert knowledge of configuration tuning SQL Server 2005 over MS cluster. The will need to have expert knowledge in PL/SQL-SQL T-SQL programming (write complex and lengthy PL/SQL-SQL queries and scripts), Stored Procedures, Triggers, User-Defined Functions, Cursors, Views etc. The right candidate will have Oracle Database experience on Windows platform practical Oracle RAC build experience (e.g. be able to demonstrate ability to build RAC from scratch), they will have Oracle RAC experience advance knowledge on Windows (ideal) or on Linux (requirement for Oracle RAC experience). The DBA will also need strong knowledge with Oracle including SQLPLUS, Enterprise Manager, sqlloader, data-pump. The DBA should have an understanding of Query Execution Plans, advanced knowledge of MS Windows 2003/2008, x84/x64 Linux; Oracle Data-guard Windows. The other half of the skill set for the successful Database Administrator will include excellent knowledge of SQL Server 2005 tools like SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Profiler, SQL Server Agent, SQL Server Surface Area Configuration, Database Engine Tuning Advisor, BCP Bulk Load. The DBA should have excellent knowledge of MS SQL 2005 Database Activities Like Monitoring of Database, Performance Monitoring, Backup Recovery, Database Creation, Database Security, User Management, Export/Import, Patch Management Data Migration. The DBA should be skilled with SQL Server Integration Services, have an excellent grasp of various XML features in SQL Server 2005 including knowledge of XPath XQuery; the VB/.Net framework; export/import data from/to various formats like delimited raw/text file, MS-Excel, XML, SQL Server, MS-Access; an advanced knowledge of MS technologies (Active Directory, Clustering, COM/DCOM/IIS/MS MQ/etc).The successful DBA / Database Administrator should be proactive, have excellent communications skills, be able to operate effectively under pressure. They will have well developed ITIL knowledge (change control, change management, procedures, etc), where required, be prepared for overtime/weekend activities (night time/weekend on-call). Applicants should have solid project management skills, a strong overview of Business / Finance applications familiarity with working within financial services. Oracle and MS SQL certification (is a plus but not required if candidate has relevant experience)

Salary Benefits
