DBA Multiple Databases ( MySQL, POSTGRESS) Job in Jersey City, New Jersey US
Very stable, privatly held digital media company is looking for an experienced DBA that has experience in several of our databases; we use MySQL, Postgres, Mongo, SQL server and some Oracle. You will be involved in creating and/or managing very high volume and high availability database instances on a mixed platform. You should have a strong background in managing all aspects of databases in a web server/hosting environment as well as the ability to take charge of new implementations and share responsibility for architecture and design of various databases.
Job Functions:
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day operational support to critical production databases including:
-Manual recovery of unmanaged standby databases
-Administering Database Users
-Managing Database Objects
-Securing the Database
-Managing Database Performance
-Monitoring Oracle
-Managing Undo
-Dealing with Locking
-Detecting and Recovering from Database Corruption
Provide superior skill set and knowledge in the creation and configuration of Oracle DBs
On-call duty on a rotational and 24X7 basis
Hands-on troubleshooting to diagnose issues at different levels including database, application and system level.
DB Architectural guidance on infrastructure for projects in development.
Required Skills
* 5+ years Database Administration experience.
* Good understanding of Oracle internals (latches, system waits, resource allocation, data dictionary, table and index storage and access parameters)
* Demonstrated experience with Oracle 8/9i physical standby database configuration and management in a non-data guard environment.
* Proven hands-on troubleshooting skills.
* Expert-level Database and SQL tuning skills with hands-on experience in large, fast paced environments.
* Strong Unix skills required, preferably RHEL3/RHEL4 Linux Solaris, and command-line tools.
* Strong (SQL*Plus, PL/SQL) and UNIX development environments (Perl, Shell).
* Provide reliable technical support and guidance on site issues in a high velocity environment.
* Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
* Detail oriented troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues at different levels including database, application and system level (I/O, CPU, memory, etc)
* Willingness to perform on-call duty on a rotational and 24X7 basis.
* Proactively assess systems utilization to assist in troubleshooting and performance tuning.
* Provide DB Architectural guidance on all infrastructure rollouts to the development group.
* Oracle Utilities: import/export, SQL loader, RMAN
* Well developed written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to peers and management.
* MS SQL Server, Sybase, and Cache a big plus
