Decision Support Manager, Bromley recruitment

Based within the Central Decision Support area, which reaches across all areas of the business, it’s an exciting time to join a high profile active team in a fast paced, challenging environment, evolving and preparing for the divestment of the Insurance division from RBS Group.

Managing one to two accountants, proactively working with multiple business areas and stakeholders, including Senior Exec and Group, to add value, understanding and meaningful analysis of business performance, improving processes and raising reporting quality. 

Closely business partnering an array of evolving central function departments and networking with non-Finance staff, the task will involve monitoring, supporting, policing, reviewing and challenging on their financial performance and developments, including involvement in ad-hoc projects and business cases.

Wider aspects of the role will include an overview of the company’s performance with support given to the rest of the Central Decision Support team in producing reports and analysis as well as stress and scenario testing of plans. 

Focus will also go towards understanding the company’s total expense position, leading initiatives to improve transparency and visibility of costs, to enable strong cost control management and accountability.  

Jobholders will develop and match solutions to meet complex needs and will be required to make decisions and work under their own initiative. Ensure divisional and Group reporting deadlines are met and ensure the output of any information is timely, reliable and informative. Work with Decision Support Management and Senior Exec to understand strategic goals and assess performance compared to plan, investigating and commenting on variances.

Key Accountabilities

- Provide support to business and colleagues; proactively looking to improve all processes and information flows between the centre and the business

- Build up a wide understanding of the business and the issues that are faced, understanding strategic plans and developments

- Stakeholder relationship management and networking; proactively increasing the profile and involvement of Decision Support in the business as a key contact

- Represent Central Decision Support to RBS Group as a trusted contact for issues and questions relating to the business areas

- Provide meaningful analysis and challenge performance, with an understanding of business drivers

- Raise transparency, visibility and understanding levels in accounting and reporting

Input into Divestment activities, supporting developments in the business in preparation for separation from RBS Group

- Ensure smooth transition of depts that will transfer from RBS Group to the Insurance division in preparation for separation

- Support and challenge the business during forecasting process, ensuring each area takes ownership of their submission and is held accountable of their performance against expectation

- Month end reporting and discussion with business heads, ensuring performance awareness/understanding as well as cost management accountability

- Support and assistance to wider team during forecasting process

- Creation and implementation of a budget stress testing model and process in conjunction with Risk and Actuarial depts.

- Work with business, other central areas and Group to improve month-end and quarter-end processes

- To provide support to the central and category Decision Support heads for financial and management information including, assisting in the collation and distribution of KPI’s to support the information, rapidly assembling presentations to strict deadlines

- Provide guidance and support to deputy business analyst(s) enabling them to carry out tasks in line with best practice and enable them to effectively cover and step up when appropriate

- Champion a culture of team spirit and help ensure that the objectives of the wider team are delivered

Key Competencies/level 

- Insurance/Financial services knowledge preferred.

- PC Skills – Intermediate level working knowledge including the development of complex models. - PowerPoint knowledge an advantage. 

- Professional Qualifications – Qualified accountant ideally, but focus will be placed on competencies

- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills

- Ability to deal with multiple task and deadlines.

- Willingness and ability to challenge senior members of staff 

- Financial Systems Knowledge – Solid understanding of reporting systems a distinct advantage
