Deputy Director, Transitional Housing (Shelters) Job in Bronx 10456, New York Us
The Acacia Network is looking for a Deputy Director for its transitional housing program to assist the Director with the management of the agency. He/she oversees the operations of the transitional housing program to assure that staff follows agency procedures and operates in accordance to DHS and other regulatory agency requirements.
Responsibilities
· Confers with and assists the Director in the everyday management of the family residence program
· Recommends action to be taken in the alleviation of problem areas
· Receives direction, assignments and acts as liaison between Director and program staff
· Oversees the implementation of policies and procedures noting deficiencies and needed changes and amendments.
· Monitors and performs program evaluations to report to the Director.
· Assists with the establishment of management systems to insure the effective delivery of services
· May supervise the administrative operations of the program addressing reporting requirements established by DHS and other agencies
· Supervises program staff ; Assists with evaluation, counseling, discipline and generally insures that program staff are performing satisfactorily
· Makes recommendations regarding the promotion of program staff
· Interviews and hires lower level personnel to fill vacant positions and assists in the recruitment of key administrative staff in conjunction with the Human Resources Department
· Reviews the performance of and makes determinations on the effectiveness of the transitional housing program and administrative staff
· Attends and chairs staff meetings at the program level; attend the weekly Executive Management meeting
· Elicits and reviews programs’ operating reports from staff concerning areas of responsibilities
· Makes inquiries on areas of program and administration in need of explanation
· Notes marginal or substandard areas and suggest ways of or establishes deadlines for resolutions
Qualifications
· Bachelor degree in Human Services or High school diploma with:
· At least 5 years experience in an administrative position
· Thorough knowledge of procedures and directives relating to DHS programs
· Excellent problem solving and communication skills
· Good knowledge of resources available in the community
· Good knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision
· Good knowledge of the program policies and procedures
· Ability to plan, direct and coordinate services and develop working relationships with program and administrative staff
· Ability to make oral presentations
· Ability to maintain working relationship during stressful argumentation and negotiations
