Derivatives Counsel

The Derivatives Counsel will report to the General Counsel Chief Compliance Officer and will be responsible for providing legal advice and support on all legal, regulatory, contractual, operational and administrative issues that arise in connection with the use of any derivatives or other specialized investments in the provision of discretionary investment management services to a global client base.

Essential Job Functions:

General duties include providing legal advice and support relating to the use of any derivatives or other specialized investments (e.g., futures, options, swaps, forwards, bank loans, repos and reverse-repos, etc.) in the provision of investment management services to global institutional separate account clients, U.S. mutual funds, UCITS funds, hedge funds, and other public or privately offered onshore, offshore and local market funds.

A successful candidate will (i) have an expert understanding of the laws, rules, and regulations, and market practice governing the use of derivatives and other specialized investments in the context of a global fixed income and equity asset management operation, (ii) provide prompt, professional service, (iii) produce outstanding written work, (iv) possess the experience and confidence to interact professionally with senior management, clients, and clients’ representatives, (v) have a demonstrated track record of effectively solving problems to a successful resolution, and (vi) have a willingness and ability to master new laws and regulations as they develop.

A successful candidate will have familiarity with: (i) Dodd-Frank (and similar non-US laws and regulations); (ii) the Commodity Exchange Act; (iii) the Investment Advisers Act of 1940; (iv) the Investment Company Act of 1940; (v) laws and regulations governing the operation of UCITS funds; (vi) the Securities Exchange Act; and (vii) rules and regulation governing the operation of US broker-dealers.
