Trading Finance operates in support of Trading's strategic objectives, helping it to achieve its aim of being the world's pre-eminent energy trader, in a controlled and compliant way. Trading Finance is an integral function within group's global oil and gas trading and supply activities. It is accountable for short term planning and for all financial and middle office control and reporting activities. It also ensures consistency and monitors compliance in processes and Operating Standards. Trading Finance operates around 3 Global processes: Accounting Reporting, Trade Completion and Product Control and operates seamlessly with the Risk function to support the business.

Role synopsis:

- Product Control is a key control function, accountable for ensuring that trading activities are conducted within a robust control framework.

- This role will report into the Regional Head of Global Derivatives Treasury. The job holder will carry out the daily processes in the areas of deal level exposure, daily PL validation, global exposure and PL reporting for the Derivatives and Treasury Trading portfolios.

- The position will provide the appropriate level of oversight and review and ensure both daily and month end integrity of the reported data.

- In addition to silent running of controls, the post-holder will be involved in projects to drive continuous improvement in this area.

Key accountabilities:

- Calculation and reporting daily Management Information (position and PL) and ensuring consistency with accounting ledgers.

- The continued development and improvement of the system of internal controls through critical evaluation of current controls and processes and utilisation of best practice.

- Delivery of ad-hoc projects to enhance control, analysis and reporting.

- Reconciliation of Management Information to Accounting data on a timely and accurate basis.

- Assisting in the resolution of the financial closing issues.

Essential Education:

- Degree in Finance/Business or numerate disciple

Essential experience and job requirements:

- Deep understanding of options and derivatives in commodity markets, both theory and practice

- Understanding of control requirements in a trading organisation

- Attention to detail, ability to work with detailed transactions and accurately control, report and communicate trading activity

- Proactive approach to continuous improvement of processes and controls (decision making, innovation, teamwork)

- Ability to perform in a deadline orientated environment

- IT (systems) skills (Business Objects, Excel – Advanced Access)

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable criteria qualifications:

- Highly numerate

- Interest in financial and commodity markets

- Murex and/or Wall St Systems knowledge
