Accountabilities
- Assisting the Driller in the daily operation of the Drilling Rig, crew supervision and maintenance of Mud Pits, Mud Pumps and Solids Control equipment.
- Maintaining volume condition of drilling fluids in the Mud Pits.
- Handling, storage mixing of chemical substances required for use in the drilling fluids in compliance to criteria set down in the MSDS register.
- Wearing appropriate PPE for the task being performed, in particular, fall protection at all times while climbing working in the derrick.
- Report to the driller / Rig Manager if PPE is damaged or additional items are required maintain a clean tidy working environment.
- Assist with the coordination of PTW tasks where they are a nominated person on the permit.
- Working in the Derrick whilst the Drill Stem is being hoisted in or out of the hole.
- Latching, unlatching of Elevators and Racking of the Drill Stem in derrick.
- Working on the Casing Stabbing Board to hold or guide a joint of casing whilst casing is being screwed into joint at the Rotary Table.
- Lead by example with a positive work ethic, and help train floormen leasehands to improve safe work skills seek job promotion.
- Follow Company Operator Safe Work procedures instruction assist in promoting a safety culture among the rig crews.
- Report any accidents or incidents to the driller / Rig Manager immediately assist with any investigation as required.
A Derrickman plays a key role in being able to work in a crew as a safe and efficient team member, being able to identify and report any potential hazards.
