Design Engineer
1) Qualifications
From graduation plus 2 years until:
i) Chartered (when progression to Senior Engineer status will be reviewed)
Or
ii) (in exceptional cases) until an Engineer excels to the point where he is regarded as a Senior Engineer not yet
having achieved chartered status.
2) Business Development
Begin to make contacts with clients/other design team members and build relationships which may prosper in the future.
3) Project Role
- Role will normally be a Design Engineer on projects responsible to Associate or SE but occasionally as Project Engineer on small/less complex projects.
- Be familiar with agreed fees/scope of services/programme.
- Manage project resources/programme.
- Attend design team/site meetings.
- Liaise and correspond day to day with design team/contractor.
- Supervise office filing system set-up.
- Receive all project correspondence.
- Implement project QA policy and CDM requirements.
- Responsible for setting-up and maintaining job filing system to office standard.
- Attend team/job meetings to discuss progress/deadlines/detail design issues.
- Implement QA policy and CDM requirements.
- Be fluent in Russian and able to translate engineering and other technical documents to and from Russian.
4) Company Role
- Begin to take part in the development of company procedures (task groups etc).
- Review and comment on company procedures documents using the feedback system.
- Attend team meetings providing feedback on your/company development where possible.
5) Engineering Function
- Produce drawing list/calculation index/specification list/information required schedule.
- Produce design philosophy
- Responsible for development and production of drawings, specifications and reports.
- Produce calculations in accordance with the requirenments of British Standards, Eurocodes and Russian SNiPS.
- Understand the requirements of the Russian “Proekt” and “Expertisa” submissions.
- Check drawings/review calculations from Graduate Engineers.
- Understand design philosophy/design fundamentals.
- Familiar with architects/service engineers/etc. drawings, specification.
- Development of details.
- Production of calculations.
- Co-ordination with architect/service engineer information.
