Design Engineer
- Translate customer requirements into a complete documented solution design including; specifications, hardware configuration, BOM, and electrical controls design.
- Complete electrical system configuration and design including Electrical and Control Panel schematics and drawings using ACAD.
- Complete system BOM including Omron and third party components required to develop the complete system.
- Assists Automation Solutions Architect with requirements definition when project / system opportunities are identified
- Perform set up and configuration of industrial controls, networks, and software as needed to verify and validate system designs
- Create and execute test plans for integration testing, FAT testing, validation testing, etc.
- Project communications including documenting meetings with customers, vendors, detailed trip reports, project time reporting.
- On some projects, you will also be called upon to supervise the source / procurement / assembly / test, and startup of designed system.
- Other engineering, project, technical tasks as required.
- Represent Omron in a professional, ethical, and socially responsible manner.
- Represents the Omron Guiding Principles through personal and business interactions with employees, customers, distributors, and colleagues.
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field from a four year college or technical school.
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Project / Engineering experience:
- Designing control systems
- Electrical control systems design
- Industrial network design
- Control Panel design
- Data acquisition and control system design
- Measurement / process control system design
- Project / system Engineering and project system documentation.
- Knowledge, service, and application/integration experience in one or more of the following industries, Automotive, Material Handling, Semiconductor fabrication, food, beverage, or Alternative Energy.
- Experience with engineering tools such as MS Project, CAD, software development SDKs.
- Experience with OMRON industrial control products required.
- Experience with competitive and third party vendor control products a plus.
- Mechanical design experience a plus
- Project / System Design experience:
- Vision inspection systems
- Machine / manufacturing controls system
- Data Acquisition and control
- Motion and Position control systems
- This job requires a minimum of 40% travel.
- Extended hours, weekend work, and overnight travel are to be expected as an integral part of the job function. Six weekends per year are typical for personal development or meeting customer scheduled activity.
