Basic Function:
Responsible for the design, programming and graphic implementation related to all ALC-Pittsburgh projects requiring construction and/or augmentation of any existing automation systems to support the execution and installation of closed and / or potential sales. Provide support for other department Design Engineers as required ensuring the successful completion and utilizing departmental standards to maximize design efficiency.
Principal Accountabilities:
Responsible for the successful overall hardware, software and graphic design of ALC-Pittsburgh projects, controls selection, as well the implementation of the Engineering department procedures and standards used in the installation, commissioning, and documentation of controls and laboratory projects.
* Complete assigned projects on or before the scheduled submittal date by coordinating with and facilitating the various internal and external organizations. This would include valve sizing, submittals, damper submittals, airflow submittals, waterflow measuring device submittals, Automated Logic and Phoenix Controls Corporation programming as well as equipment selection and coordination.
* Ensure Design Engineering integrates seamlessly with all of ALC-Pittsburgh products and services.
* Full and direct responsibility to complete projects according the Design Engineering, Software Engineering, and Graphic Engineering hours that are allotted for all assigned projects.
* Evaluate and implement new control devices, new control programs and new graphics used in order to provide the customer with the most cost effective and long term reliable system.
* Coordinate with external control device vendors as required by consultant design specifications and customer requirements.
* Analyze existing site surveys or reports in the field on client' mechanical and electrical HVAC systems.
* Specify and select company and other vendor control products necessary to meet contract requirements and sequences of operation.
* Research existing or specified HVAC mechanical systems to determine the best integration of controls and control algorithms.
* Prepare point-to-point wiring diagrams in Visio and/or AutoCAD as required.
* Prepare programs written in Automated Logic' Logic Builder as required.
* Prepare databases created in Automated Logic' Site Builder as required.
* Prepare graphics created in Automated Logic' View Builder.
* Prepare detailed written sequences of operation and applications programs when required.
* Attend and contribute to project kickoff meetings, project review meetings, and monthly engineering meetings with the Engineering Manager, Vice President of Operations, and Branch President.
* Utilize developed engineering standards to maximize efficiency.
* Create accurate submittal package materials.
* Fully read and understand project scope of work, contract documents, and project specific sequence of operations.
* Maintain customer specific and departmental hardware and software standards.
* Create accurate and efficient control algorithms to maximize efficiency in the field
* Simulate non-standard and/or complex control algorithms for proper control sequence before release in order to maximize efficiency in the field.
* Prepare, maintain and track engineering project correspondence.
* Coordinate project specific details with outside contractors, vendors, and customers
Required:
Associate' degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or 2+ years experience designing, programming and creating graphics in the HVAC controls industry
Preferred:
Bachelor' degree in Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or 8+ year' experience designing in the HVAC controls industry.
Knowledge Required:
* Able to design, program and create graphics for projects related to HVAC controls, BAS management, Fire Alarm System integration, and Security Management Systems integration of higher project and contract complexity.
* Experience in dealing with a large and diverse number of simultaneous challenges, requiring knowledge of many different disciplines.
* Must have the ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
* Able to read and understand Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical blueprints.
* Able to read and understand point to point control schematics and sequence of operations.
* 1+ years experience implementing the programming for interfacing to third party devices such as Square D, Eaton, GE electric meters, Liebert CRAC units and ABB, Danfoss variable frequency drives.
* Basic experience with Microsoft suite of software products to include: Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, AutoCAD, and other Windows products when required
Knowledge Preferred:
* 1+ years experience designing, programming and creating graphics for complex control systems used in laboratory environments.
* Direct engineering and programming experience utilizing Phoenix Controls Inc. product for laboratory pressurization and fume hood system designs.
* 4+ years experience implementing the programming for interfacing to third party devices such as Square D, Eaton, GE electric meters, Liebert CRAC units and ABB Danfoss variable frequency drives.
* 4+ years experience implementing industry standard protocols such as BACnet, Lonworks, and Modbus.
* Direct programming experience utilizing Phoenix Controls Inc. products for laboratory pressurization and fume hood systems.
* Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft suite of Software products to include: Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, AutoCAD, and other Windows products when required.
