Design Engineer – Manufacturing

My client is a leading UK manufacturer of automotive/agricultural products and due to continuous expansion is now seeking to recruit a Design Engineer to design and develop cutting edge mechanical or electromechanical products for any of the company's value streams.

Key characteristics are to be able to create sheet metal and solid parts in solid works or solidegde. You will need to make design decisions on your own and understand the impact your designs or changes have in the manufacturing environment (machines such as Laser, Brake/Punch Press, CNC, fabrications, electrostatic paint and assembly lines) Experience with engineering processes including bill of materials and change notices is a must. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned)

• Analyze product scope, specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
• Determine feasibility of designing new product or modifying existing products considering costs, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
• Provide technical information concerning manufacturing products, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning.
• Confer with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.
• Prepare or direct preparation of product layout, detailed drawings, bills of materials and schematics.
• Direct and coordinate manufacturing or building of prototypes, and pilot runs.
• Compile and analyze operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product.
• Plan and develop experimental test programs.
• Analyze test data and report to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
• Confer with research and other engineering personnel and prepare design modifications as required.
• Evaluate engineering test results for possible application to developments of systems or other uses.

Education and/or Experience
Engineering related Engineering or Design related degree, ideally plus 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specific Skills and Abilities

• You must exhibit a high level of proficiency with CAD, ideally solid works/solid edge and be comfortable/experienced with spending up to 80% of your day on the design package
• Effectively collaborate and manage interactions with the Model Shop, Internal and External Customers and Suppliers
• Have experience of working for a manufacturer and exhibit an understanding of the manufacturing and lean processes (Kaizen experience would be a distinct advantage!!)
