Summary
Working within the design team, designing, developing and supporting mechanical and product design from concept through full product lifecycle. Specifically, designing electronics packaging for our range of sensors, focused on high-end motorsport and off highway vehicles. Production of full manufacturing documentation.
Specific Responsibilities
- Concept design using 3D CAD package for customer assessment
- Generation of proposals for customers at enquiry stage
- Generation of specifications against requirements documents
- Generation of quotations against customer specifications for mechanical aspects of the product design
- Project Engineering
- Design and development of products against agreed specifications
- Discussions and visits with customers
- Selection, evaluation and sourcing appropriate materials.
- Liaison with suppliers of machining, tooling or injection moulding services
- Prototypes build, commissioning and refining the product
- Preparing a complete design documentation package
- Preparing a complete manufacturing documentation package
- Liaison with other members of the design team from various disciplines
- Environmental and ruggedness testing
- Calibration of sensors
- Design of manufacturing jigs and fixtures
Position Requirements
Experience:
- Demonstrable experience of mechanical or product design preferably in a similar role or industry
- Demonstrable experience of Solidworks or similar 3D CAD package
- Good understanding of basic mechanical principals
- Demonstrable experience of specifying materials for various environmental applications such as high temperature, IP67, IK08, vibration etc?
- Demonstrable experience of electronics packaging
- A willingness to assist in fabrication of prototypes
Additional advantageous experience:
- Machine shop familiarity
- Knowledge of position sensing or liquid level sensing
- Familiarity with the motorsport industry or off highway vehicles
- COSMOS or other FEA package
- Familiar with ISO9001: 2000
- Electronics manufacturing techniques
