PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:
Creates product designs and documentation for new and existing products by providing accurate layouts, 3D models, drawings, tolerance stack-up analysis, bill of materials (BOM), and other documentation to fully define product for manufacturing. Will apply design for manufacturing methodologies to support products from design through yield analysis and customer validation under the guidance of senior engineers and managers. Work will include projects with moderate scope and/or complexity with minimal supervision but with technical guidance from senior engineers and managers.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
PRIMARY
- Designs components and assemblies using 3D CAD system and independently prepares comprehensive product layouts on project design aspects using design for manufacturing methodology
- Manages/Initiates/prepares Engineering Change Order (ECO) documentation, including the development of BOM’s and negotiations with other functional groups
- Performs research and investigation to obtain missing information to ensure all specifications are correctly presented in documentation
- Performs required calculations to ensure all dimensions, tolerances and other specifications are correct as represented with minimal review required
- Performs tolerance stack analysis of complex assemblies and drawings prior to release of documentation
- Performs root cause analysis, mechanical engineering calculations and corrective action development in support of application engineering, sales and operations, as required.
- Actively participates and embraces lean activities and lean-driven improvements
- Leads or assists in development of engineering, drafting and release standards
- Provides technical expertise in the use of required tools such as SolidWorks and Enovia
SECONDARY
- Directs and assists with the build of components and assemblies for prototypes and pilot builds
- Participates in the product development process, including design brainstorming and voice of customer activity
- Participates in the 3D process, A3’s, 3P 2P events
- Manages both small and some parts of large scale projects independently.
- Provides leadership and limited work direction and technical support to Designers
Required Skills:
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
- Four year technical degree preferably in design, electronics, mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering.
- 3+ years mechanical, electrical or design engineering required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS ABILITIES:
- Intermediate skills using SolidWorks, Enovia (or similar software) and MRP (JD Edwards preferred)
