Design & Engineering Manager Job in Hampshire, Southern UK
Reporting to the Managing Director

Management experience in particular in managing people to project.
A designer fully trained with 3D Solidworks, and Autocad.
Have a strong sense of visual design – art and design trained
Has a good up to date knowledge of modern materials and processes for manufacturing widgets
Understand particularly plastics and extrusions alloy and plastic and metal parts – their limits and design attributes
Should ideally be a Mechanical Engineer
Be well versed in lean manufacturing and japans style okey pokey processes.
A working knowledge of electronics
Project trained in some way and capable of working to a project deadline
Is responsible for all aspect of product design on agreement with the sales director on a product plan and is required to keep the companies products up to date and where necessary to design for cost.
Staff Management
Manage the design and design engineering team
Manage projects to deliver on time
Liaise with the sales director on all new product development
Provide plans and Capex for all projects
Measure all design/ engineering resource
Plan use of Design/engineering resource for design projects.
Maintain design standards and all company drawings manage the company’s technical sales written information with appropriate control
Design
Design new innovative products to an agreed cost and style.
Value engineering
Provide design solutions to company products in the event of failure.
Review new material as required by the sales department.
Specific design
Cost
Manage the cost and introduction of new products working with the purchasing department
Provide accurate and up to date Bills of Materials for all products with an annual review.
Evaluate new products made by others and advise on their suitability.
IP management
Ensure the companies designs are appropriately protected for copyright, design registration and patents as appropriate.
Ensure the company confidential data is safeguarded at all times
Sales Support
Support the sales team as necessary with technical assistance by drawing support or technical information.
Support quotations with design work, drawings and costings to include estimated labour. Be responsible to ensure the agreed special designs complete by the agreed supply date. Advise manufacturing times on all one off work.
Advise on installation work and ensure at all times the company’s products are used appropriately.
Provide technical assistance and design on electrical installations.
Provide technical training to all members of staff and Distributors and customers by agreement.
Quality
Be in charge of company quality, with appropriate drawings, tolerances, and materials as well as all aspects of the business.
Ensure company products are tested in the correct environment and usage. Establish and maintain this criteria
