Designer
As a Designer for Substation Engineering Design you will perform engineering design and provide construction assistance to ensure successful completion of electric substation projects. In order to succeed you will be able to:
Provide support to engineers, operations, project management, planning, sales departments, and as well as external customers in support of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Transmission Distribution system.
Evaluate the application and use of materials, equipment and new technologies on the LIPA TD system.
Assist engineers in conducting root cause analysis of failed LIPA substation equipment.
Work with organizations/customers to ensure prudent engineering solutions are undertaken to special engineering and construction projects.
Design of electric TD systems and related facilities based upon reliability and economy with consideration of operation, safety and maintenance requirements.
Design substation arrangements using the latest version of AUTOCAD and TEAM CENTER software applications.
Revise standards as a result of recommendations by industry associations (e.g. IEEE, EEI, ANSI, etc.) related to state of the art materials and engineering/operating methods.
Participate in Research Development initiatives and procure new materials/equipment to improve performance of LIPA’s electric substations.
Perform design calculations as required. Represent the department and company at industry meetings as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 4 years of electrical design experience is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering plus related engineering and/or electrical construction work experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of engineering design and analysis of electric TD systems is a requirement.
- Strong Knowledge of AUTOCAD, the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related guidelines related to electric substation engineering, design and operation.
- Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal, communications, writing and administrative skills.
- Excellent analytical and computer skills are essential.
