Designer/Drafter Job in Dallas 75231, Texas US
CDM Smith is looking for a designer drafter to join the Automation team in our Dallas Design Center. As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
- Preparing moderately difficult to difficult engineering and construction drawings for a complete phase of a project, utilizing manual and computer-assisted drafting/design techniques
- Working with minimal information and very rough sketches, which are provided per company standards
- Performing discipline design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concepts and mathematical formulas
- Determining material needs and performing necessary calculations using accepted formulas and references
- Developing and detailing minor design elements which have not been clearly defined in the layouts or sketches
- Creating various section cuts from the plan views
- Performing routine checking and/or verification tasks, including review of junior staff documents
- Performing related fundamental engineering support tasks (plotting drawings, preparing transmittals, preparing overnight packages, updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making simple calculations, proofreading reports, etc.)
- Reviewing manufacturers' or fabricators' prints for aid in design documents
- Referencing information from vendor prints, catalogs, technical manuals, etc., and interfacing with engineers as required
- Supporting field assignments as required
Qualfied candidates will have:
- A high school graduate with vocational technical training in basic drafting technology and typically 6-10 years of related experience in Automation drafting(or equivalent working knowledge/experience), or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology and 5-8 years of related experience in Automation drafting.
- Incumbent must demonstrate proficiency in utilizing manual drafting techniques for a variety of non-routine assignments and a working knowledge of CADD for a variety of assignments.
- Will assist in IC designs specific to AutoPlant PID and 3d/4d drawings.
- Experience with AutoCAD required
- Experience with AutoPlant PID preferred
