Job Description
Manage the major gifts office with a staff of three to four people. Responsibilities will be divided between capital and investment campaigns looking for gifts in the six and seven figure range and major unrestricted gifts of five figures in the annual fund. Personally manage a portfolio of 100-150 active donors and manage the staff efforts related to approximately another 800 active major donors. Accountable for the strategic vision of campaigns and annual fund activities for the department. Wealth screening and Moves Management will be critical to the transformation of the current donor base while intimate knowledge of Boston's philanthropic community will add new donors to the base of support at WBUR. Enhancing and maintaining the most productive board of non-fiduciary members to take leadership positions in personal philanthropy will also be critical.
Required Skills
B.A./B.S., Master Degree preferred, passionate for the work of WBUR - the important events of the day and of our time; the search for truth; serious and balanced news and analysis; thoughtful, informative and inspiring programming; rich discussion; a love of the arts and culture. Innate leadership abilities; a strategist; a strong and comfortable communicator; one with demonstrated organizational skills. A person who can operate comfortably in a variety of milieus from a donors living room to the boardroom of a large foundation or of a major corporation. An individual marked by initiative, creative energy and a certain salesmanship - who can make the ask and close the sale; a team player - dependable, hard-working, and inspiring - who would fit in well with the hallmark collegial culture of WBUR. Proven management and fund-raising experience of some eight to 15 years and documented accomplishments in the not-for-profit or public sector.
