PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The SAP Innovation Center Potsdam (ICP) was launched in February 2011. Since then the team has grown significantly, projects are up to speed, and partnerships have been established. The ICP is now looking for a manager to further drive its growth, development, and impact. The role of the ICP is unique in SAP in that it catalyses and accelerates innovation throughout SAP by bringing together cutting edge research and practical experience to create solutions for real life problems. Projects involve collaboration with customers, academic institutions and other SAP departments. This contributes to a dynamic and fast changing work environment. The ICP works in small agile teams. Projects may include different phases of the innovation cycle, including early opportunity identification, user research, conceptualization, and prototyping, and will go as far as productizing new solutions. Leading such a team requires experience in software development as well as software architecture and an up to date knowledge of technology and current research. Experience in dealing with academic institutions would also be a major benefit. The successful candidate will also have to be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and project requirements.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
* Manage, coordinate and facilitate a heterogeneous team including students, interns, developers and architects with internal and external team members
* Monitor project progress and directions. Able to step-up as project lead when necessary
* Mentoring and coaching project leads
* Inspire and motivate team through leadership by example
* Establish working models to foster a culture of open collaboration, creative thinking, and software excellence
* Able to deal and resolve conflicts
* Develop network with other SAP departments as well as potential customers, the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), and other academic institutions
WORK EXPERIENCE
* 3+ years experience as a development manager
* Deep knowledge in two or more application domains
* 3+ years experience in coaching teams and individuals
* Experience in working with Universities and HPI
* Strong experience in agile development methodologies
* International work experience is beneficial
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
* University degree
* Excellent people management skills
* Business sense

* Very good powers of comprehension, high quality commitment and motivating working style
* Very good at setting priorities and dealing with critical project situations
* Excellent communication skills towards employees, customers, and project partners (internal and external)
* Strong educational or professional background in software engineering
* Strong experience in developing software solutions
* Constructive and open style of communication
* Strong skills in conflict management
* International experience
* Flexibility when dealing with other mentalities and cultures
* Willingness to travel (50%)
* Strong communication and presentation skills in English and German
* Deep knowledge of SAP’s strategy
