Duties/Responsibilities
Manages a portfolio of major and principal gifts donors and prospects at the level of $1 million or more in support of University-wide initiatives. Possesses a high level of knowledge and expertise on major gifts and fundraising in general, and at least a mid-level knowledge of planned giving.

1. Identifies and cultivates new major gift donors and prospects, with the goal of increasing their involvement and engagement with the university.

2. Cultivates all core list prospects toward their next gift, both directly and by facilitating their overall engagement with UH and their connections to faculty, staff and volunteer leadership.

3. Solicits gifts of $1 million or more; develops and advances solicitation strategies involving faculty, staff and volunteer leadership.

4. Works with high net-worth individuals, corporations and alumni to advance institutional priorities in balance with discerned donor priorities.

5. Provides regular activity reports and updates. Develops best practices and programs to increase major gifts.

6. Participates in University-wide development activities as needed.

7. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of five (5) years of successful front-line fundraising and strong major gift experience. The successful candidate will:

Demonstrate well-honed skills in developing long term cultivation and solicitation strategies;

Have a commitment to the University of Houston's mission and an understanding of its complex programs;

Have well-developed communication skills, including writing and speaking abilities;

Be organized and data-driven;

Be comfortable using fundraising databases and proficient in using a personal computer;

Possess creativity, engergy, confidence and integrity;

Demonstrate initiative and independence combined with the ability to work well as part of a team;

Be able and willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
