Device Physics Engineer Job in Minneapolis 55401, Minnesota US
The Device Physics Engineer will work with design
and process teams to evaluate new transducer designs and provide in-depth
analysis of transducer performance and instability. This position supports
mission-critical early design learning and performance assessment by developing
fundamental understanding of device physics in new transducer designs.
This position will be located at our RD facility in Bloomington, MN and will report to the Engineering Manager for Heads Research Development.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Provide
fundamental understanding of the root causes of reader instability signatures,
and collaborate with transducer designers and modelers to propose solutions. - Perform
quasi-static transfer curve and noise testing and analysis of new transducer
designs. - Develop advanced electrical tests to assess
the performance and reliability of new reader designs. -
Develop new measurement algorithms to improve head performance characterization
capability.
Requirements:

Masters or Ph.D. in Physics/Electrical Engineering/Materials
Science -
Strong analytical and problem solving skills are
required. -
Strong statistical analysis skills are required.

Good communication and teamwork skills are required.
- Strong background in Magnetics and Device Physics preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experimental experience in reader device physics coupled
with theoretical modeling skill is desired. - Being familiar with Matlab and
Labview software is a plus.
