Glenkirk is currently seeking Direct Support Professionals to assist with daily living skills in residential locations located in Arlington Heights, Palatine, Northbrook, Libertyville, Lake Forest, and Highland Park. Full-Time and Part-Time hours are available.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to commit to 120 hours of paid training that is Monday - Friday 8am to 4pm.
- Must be able to pass TABE (Tests Of Adult Basic Education) test
- Must have a valid Illinois driver's license with a clean driving record. Meet and maintain driving record.
- Must be over 21 years old
- Must have at least a High School/GED diploma
- Ability to be trained and implement all modules of Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training; able to lift and move non- semi-ambulatory consumers, assist consumers on/off the bus/van and able to move boxes and/or furniture for cleaning, climb ladder or step stool as required, also able to pick up grocery bags.

BASIC FUNCTION: Works in a direct care capacity with consumers to teach daily living skills.
SCOPE: Provide training/assistance to individuals with severe developmental disabilities in areas of self-care, hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping and laundry duties; socialization and recreation; ensure appropriate use of public transportation to work sites and recreation activities; collect documentation and file data as required. Attend scheduled staff meetings. Communicate professionally with individuals served, co-workers, and outside-agency personnel.
WORK PERFORMED
- Follow assigned 24 hour activity schedules and assist individuals in achieving their Individual Service Plan (ISP)
goals and objectives.
- Participate in the development of Individual Service Plan via
daily log, programming suggestions, pre-staffing meetings and
staffings.
- Maintain certification in required trainings.
- Complete daily log notes, goal and behavior tracking for each individual as assigned.
- Assist individuals with meal planning and preparation ensuring participation in both shopping and cooking.
- Maintain a clean and safe home environment at all times, which includes, but is not limited
To shoveling, salting and cleaning the van of debris. (this includes assisting individuals with housekeeping duties.)
- Document unusual incidents in incident reports, physical intervention forms, (if necessary), and ensure miscellaneous
paperwork (i.e. cleaning lists, meal menus, behavior baseline, etc.)
- Participate in community integration (this includes providing transportation be it public or agency, including to and from day program).
- Supervise and document consumer medication administration, must pass and
maintain medication certification.
- Maintain regular and consistent work attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
