Essential Function:

Manage the Company's safety, health and environmental program by overseeing the development and implementation of plans and programs for the prevention of workplace injuries and accidents.

Scope:

This position reports to the Operations Manager and will interact routinely with multiple levels of management.

Position responsibilities:

1. Work with leadership to develop and implement safe work practices and ensure that associates are following such policies, procedures, and practices.
2. Oversee the investigation of all accidents and injuries to identify root cause and necessary corrective action to prevent reoccurrence. Ensure follow-up procedures are in place.
3. Work to implement changes in procedures, policies, training, etc. as necessary to prevent accident reoccurrence. Ensure follow-up procedures are in place.
4. Conduct facility audits and assessments to identify safety deficiencies, training, facility or equipment upgrade, repair or movement. Develop proactive solutions and alternatives to solving the identified issues.
5. Ensure that facility is in compliance with OSHA, ANSI and all other regulations. With appropriate leadership and resources, implement changes to ensure compliance.
6. Work with associates to understand problems, issues, and obtain suggested alternatives.
7. In conjunction with workers’ compensation insurance carrier, develop strategies and plans to administer workers’ compensation claims and return associates to work as soon as possible.
8. Oversee hazard and peer observation programs to include administering, coordinating, and conducting training, tracking, etc.
9. Oversee the compilation and reporting of accident and safety statistics on a periodic and regular basis and ensure all required reports on injuries and fatalities are completed.
10. Working with leadership and associates, perform safety analysis on positions to identify job demand requirements and safe work practices.
11. Coordinate the development and maintenance of safety SOP's on all plant machinery.
12. Lead coordination efforts for all external safety audits and report and track on all identified items.
13. Coordinate and conduct monthly safety meetings and monthly safety training.
14. Responsible for oversight and implementation of activities based upon safety goals as approved by Operations Manager.
15. Ensure through coordination with Maintenance that contractors are in compliance with local policies and procedures as well as governmental regulations.
16. Oversee the development and conduct of the new hire safety orientation program.
17. Work with outside resources i.e. local fire chief, OSHA, professional organizations, consultants, contractors, insurance companies, brokers, attorneys, etc. to develop and maintain a positive and open relationship in order to identify best practices, creative solutions for issues, build partnerships, etc. to further the Company's health and safety program.
18. Other duties assigned as appropriate.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's Degree required. BS in Science, Industrial Safety, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Environment and Safety, or related field preferred.
Seven or more years of work with responsibility in occupational safety, health, and environmental compliance in an industrial setting required. Leadership and demonstrated project management experience is a must.

Professional certification as CSP or CIH is preferred.

Knowledge Required:
1. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
2. Working knowledge of federal, state and local EHS statutory requirements essential
3. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Software and ability to acquire proficiency in additional software pertaining to the job function
4. Experience understanding safety as it pertains to manufacturing
5. Hands-on knowledge of production systems, project management, leadership skills, influence skills, root cause analysis, SPC concepts, team leadership, and ability to self-generate improvement ideas
6. Ability to pay close attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and excellent planning and organizations skills
7. Knowledge of lean or six sigma tools and methodologies
8. Ability to coach, mentor, and lead in a high performance work team environment
9. Strong computer skills with the ability to organize, interpret, and present data
10. ISO experience helpful

11. Experience building and implementing safety programs required

12. Must have some environmental experience with storm water, waste water, and air permitting

13. Ability to define problems; collect and organize data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

14. Perform needs assessments and root cause investigations

15. Identify opportunities to reduce costs while enhancing services

16. Willing to work overtime and varied shift assignments as required
