The Director, Business Management Commercial IS is responsible for managing stakeholder relationships within the domain to ensure the meeting of technology needs of the domain, while partnering with leaders and teams within the Commercial IS/IT domain as well as across Enterprise IS/IT teams. These stakeholder relationship management responsibilities may include but not limited to acting as an advocate for business needs related to the delivery of IS/IT services, resolving Commercial stakeholder issues regarding IS/IT services/solutions as well as providing perspectives on the current and future IS/IT delivery capabilities and performance of IS/IT services. The Commercial Director Business Management collaborates with domain business stakeholders to ensure that business needs are being understood and fulfilled in a manner that is consistent with enterprise objectives.

The role manages and executes all Commercial IS/IT portfolio management processes and procedures, including stakeholder governance and portfolio resourcing. This role is responsible for the generation and maintenance of the IS/IT strategy aligned to business objectives, identifying IS/IT initiatives based on those objectives, and the overall business prioritization of portfolio projects for the domain. In addition, this role oversees domain implementations of enterprise quality assurance and vendor management, including strategic resourcing for the domain. This role provides subject matter expertise related to impact analysis and synergy identification across domain wide projects.

The Commercial Business Management Director works toward continuous improvement, innovation and enhanced operational efficiencies by staying abreast of industry trends and best practices. The role promotes innovative technological solutions and services in the domain to drive incremental value.

Role-Specific:
* Support the Commercial IS/IT Head in defining the Commercial IS/IT strategy based on understanding of the enterprise business and IS/IT strategies

* Lead development of the Commercial roadmap that outlines technical projects needed to execute the

Commercial IS/IT strategy and add value across the Commercial value chain

* Act as single point of contact and escalation to domain stakeholders for IS/IT project delivery and prioritization related issues. Monitor overall domain satisfaction with ongoing projects as well as with existing information systems and services. Escalate roadblocks and issues and collaborate within the domain IS/IT team and across enterprise IS/IT teams to jointly resolve issues

* Work with the Commercial Program Managers (in the Enterprise Team) to monitor the portfolio of Commercial projects and services

* Partner with the Commercial strategy functions; Lead portfolio management and resource operations to optimize IS/IT portfolio delivery of domain strategy

* Work with the Lead Business Analysts, domain stakeholders and IS/IT teams to ensure that business requirements are clearly understood and that the technologies that are being implemented will meet the needs and expectations of the business

* Build and manage the on-going Program Portfolio and perform the role of Program Manager to transform Business Demand in Business Cases, building respective building cases for each commercial initiative until approval and leading the hand-off of the project to the Program Management organization

* Work with Enterprise Quality Assurance and Vendor Management functions to establish domain oversight and flexible capacity management with strategic partners. Oversee management of IS/IT vendor relationships for Commercial, including oversight of vendor selection and contract development. Drive adherence to quality assurance standards and policies. Ensure that Commercial's business continuity plan is in place and compliant with technology policies and regulatory requirements

* Proactively identify opportunities for increased operational and business efficiencies, including synergies across domains

* Establish domain portfolio oversight and transparency. Facilitate issue resolution between domain IS/IT and enterprise IS/IT teams including resource contention scenarios

* Provide thought leadership on internal and external innovative trends and leading practices. Generate recommendations for innovative ideas and solutions for how Commercial IS/IT can drive business value. Work with domain business leaders to shape the development and implementation of IS/IT related business goals and strategy, especially at the concept stage

* Work with Head, Commercial IS/IT to drive key Commercial IS/IT internal and external strategic communications in collaboration with the Corporate Communications group and to drive development, monitoring and delivery of the Commercial IS/IT scorecard and to drive Portfolio Governance through Business Council Governance.

* Promote a culture of knowledge sharing across domains and oversee initiatives to proactively support sharing of best practices in business management among the technology, business and company-wide leadership teams

Stakeholder Partnership:

* Partner and oversee relationships with key domain business leaders to understand the strategic direction for the domain and help define / prioritize / achieve resulting short and long term IS/IT strategic priorities. Facilitate domain stakeholder meetings to review and provide feedback on the consumption of IS/IT services. Participate in key domain meetings to provide perspectives and feedback on the current and future IS/IT delivery capabilities and performance of IS/IT services. Advise on IS/IT risks, costs and benefits and make relevant recommendations to business teams.

* Participate in and support cross-domain process improvement and technology initiatives

* Serve as the point of contact to the Commercial organization for new initiative assessment

* Engage in IS/IT portfolio planning and prioritization processes within the domain and across the enterprise IS/IT

* Work with the domain business leaders, program managers, project managers, and architects to analyze the costs, benefits, risks, and alignment of proposed architectures and / or technologies

* Collaborate with the Head, Commercial IS/IT and Enterprise IS/IT Business Ops group to drive skill building and career development activities for Commercial IS/IT resources, including development of career ladders

* Work with Commercial IS/IT Head to maintain effective and collaborative relationship between MedImmune and AZ Commercial IS.

* Work with Commercial IS/IT Business Analyst group to maximize the use of resources of the organization to build business cases, deliver the portfolio and provide on-going support.

 

Education:

* Bachelor's degree (required) or Master's degree (MBA preferred) in related technical area, or equivalent work experience

* Business training certification in business administration highly desired.

* Project Management certification such as PMI / Project Management Professional (PMP) or Six Sigma Green Belt a plus.


Experience:
* 12+ years of leadership experience, seven of them in matrix organization managing/influencing teams from other internal organizations as well as vendor-partners.
* Typically requires 10+ years of experience including business analysis, project management, software quality assurance / testing and / or development experience
* Five years of experience working/supporting a Commercial/ Sales Marketing organization within Pharma/Biopharma, Consumers. Strong knowledge of Commercial business operations, management of Commercial technology operations (preferable for Biopharma), good understanding of key Commercial business processes and how various functions within Commercial operate and good understanding of niche technologies/vendors for enabling Commercial-related strategies.
* Experience with risk-adjusted enterprise software delivery lifecycle methods, practices and procedures.
* Experience in business and vendor relationship management, especially as it relates to stakeholder management and governance
* PMO Leadership experience highly desirable.

* Political savvy -- Able to interact and communicate with C-Level suite

 

People Management:

 * This is a Sr. single-contributor role or manages a very small key-strategic team and requires seasoned and strong leadership to provide mentoring, coaching, and leadership to the individuals within Commercial as well as in the broader domain IS/IT staff

* Promote teamwork within the domain, across technology groups and at the enterprise level * Build relationships and collaborate with other domain and enterprise resources to ensure customer needs are being met

* Manage resourcing and staffing of teams involved/assigned

* Perform employee performance evaluations (direct and indirect)staffing of teams involved/assigned
