Director, Contract Management & Operations recruitment
Reporting to Vice President, Global Licensing Contracts, the Director, Contracts Management and Operations position will provide strategic and tactical leadership to ensure a smooth and integrated contract process with the sales, technology, finance, product management and other functions in the organization. The position oversees the various contract applications, programs and processes for the business units the Department supports, globally.
Essential Accountabilities:
- Provide strategic direction and guidance to the organization on the contract process, providing leadership on the integration and operation of the various tools, applications and programs used by the company for the contract process. Advise on and implement efficient workflow solutions for the contract flow, incorporating product development/management, sales, billing and fulfillment. Leadership in enhancement of contract processes and applications including creation, managing, maintaining and storing of contracts.
- Develop and implement global standards and best practices for contract management applications and programs to ensure that the organization is obtaining maximum results from these applications and programs. Understanding of contracts, contract terms, products and services and other key elements of the contract process to ensure that the organization develops and maintains the data/content necessary for reporting and other purposes. Manage database, S:drive, contracts website and other applications. Ensure reporting for, among other things, senior management updates, metrics, and to monitor workload (i.e. metrics project, the event alerts report).
- Supervise and provide guidance to the Department's contracts professionals. These personnel include operations and technical personnel that are responsible for the content in the contracts database of contracts, maintenance and enhancement of the electronic database of contracts, the design and production of reports for management, maintaining a process for ongoing measurement and communication of metrics, ensuring standard routed agreements are properly reviewed and filed, and providing guidance and review of best practices in ensuring timely and accurate information in the contracts database. Develop personnel to grow skills and competencies.
- Work/liaise with the various McGraw-Hill/Standard Poor's functions (including sales, product management/development, senior management, global regulatory affairs, finance, tax, compliance, corporate legal, technology and other groups) to provide solutions for an integrated and efficient contract workflow and reporting that conform to then current business needs on a global level, i.e. regulatory requirements, electronic contracting process. Ensure adoption of systems and processes.
- Create efficiencies in the contract process and review and updating of existing departmental processes on a continuous basis to ensure technical and operational requirements are maintained and that the database and other applications used by the department are following best practices. Design and implement proper quality control processes and conduct reviews of current processes with recommendations on reporting and other steps to improve data quality. Advise on the changing landscape within the industry and business and modify/update procedures and recommendations on a continuous basis.
- Vendor management; build and manage relationships with the department's/organization's various internal and external vendors, including development of SLAs, invoice payment. Provide budget forecasting and intelligence to keep budget balanced.
- Leadership/active involvement in a variety of projects, including electronic agreements, business continuity, record retention, archiving, corporate mergers/acquisitions/divestitures. Responsible for contract reporting for auditing, litigation and other purposes; and other projects as needed.
Skills
- Bachelor's degree
- 10-15+years of experience in one of the following areas: technology, project management; or contract operations.
- Ability to influence others that are not in reporting chain
- Vision and strategic skills in providing forwarding thinking solutions to contract, workflow, integration of systems.
- Management of personnel at all levels and ability to manage the demands and expectations of the business.
- Ability to grasp complex concepts and synthesize to straightforward solutions
- Problem solver that is resourceful and creative; excellent negotiation skills
- Commercially aware with a keen understanding of how business works.
- Excellent organizational skills, communicate effectively with all levels of management within SP/McGraw-Hill and customer and vendor firms, and the ability to think outside the box in order to provide solutions.
- Understanding of best practices across industry; Incumbent must keep current with the rapidly evolving industry trends and practices, as they relate to among other things, the technology industry, contracts databases, process and project management, etc.
- Understanding of the financial products and services provided/required by SP and the customers/vendors that SP does business with, as well as an understanding of contracts and contract process.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
