Director, Counterparty and Leveraged Loan Credit Risk, Vice President

The Director, Counterparty and Leveraged Loan Credit Risk, Vice President is the senior credit approval officer within Counterparty Credit Risk function in Enterprise Risk Management.  This role has primary responsibility for authorizing individual credit approvals, recommending credit approvals to senior management/Credit Committee, and credit monitoring and surveillance for both individual credits and portfolios. 

The initial focus will be on supporting the launch of a leveraged loan initiative covering a broad spectrum of corporate issuers as well as also supporting the Counterparty Credit function with all trading/non-trading exposures to other non-fund/non-financial institution counterparties.  You will manage and direct the credit approval process for a newly established, higher risk Leveraged Loan Initiative and for stable, well established portfolios with lower risk counterparties/more complex product set characteristics. The candidate will make reasonable, well-informed credit decisions within delegated credit approval authority, balancing high credit quality objectives with the need to support important fee based relationships, portfolio growth, and EPS targets.  Approval authority will span multiple products, counterparties, and business lines. 

Approves credit exposures to counterparties under individual signing authority and recommends approval to senior management/Credit Committee, as appropriate

Identifies and resolves material credit risk issues, escalating to the manager / Head of Counterparty Credit when appropriate

Assesses the effectiveness of existing credit processes, identifies gaps and initiates improvements

Evaluates analytical work and works with Manager, relevant business units and Credit Analysts to improve quality

Identifies solutions for complex issues in a multi-constituent environment

Works with senior management to implement credit and counterparty risk guidelines

Serves on various related committees and participates in or leads a variety of task force assignments

Works closely with counterparts in Counterparty Credit and Enterprise Risk Management on related risk management issues and projects

May have responsibility for directing the resolution of adversely rated credit exposures

May serve as a back up to the Director / Senior Director

May have management responsibility for Credit Risk Associate Director and/or other staff

 Director, Counterparty and Leveraged Loan Credit Risk, Vice President Skills:

Equivalent to a B.S. degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field.  MBA, MSF and/or CFA preferred

10+ years of related risk management experience in a financial services organization

5+ years of risk management experience within the domestic leveraged lending space strongly preferred

Experience with applicable product / counterparty class preferred and workout experience preferred

Ability to work with senior management and to develop relationships with others throughout the organization

Strong problem resolution and superior analytical skills
