CSC currently manages a global real estate portfolio of over 16 million SF, in more than 450 locations. This portfolio includes over 25 data centers sites. A Corporate Critical Environments (CCE) organization, reporting to the Director, Corporate Facilities Management has responsibility for all data center infrastructure, ranging from day to day OM to capital project engineering and construction. CSC also owns or leases other key facilities serving as Corporate and Regional headquarters, service desk, and other client service delivery locations. These sites fall under responsible control of regional Real Estate and Facilities Management (REFM) staffs who work under guidance of the Corporate Directors of Real Estate and Facilities Management. The position of Director, Data Center Engineering Construction is intended to focus primarily on all technical aspects of the data center's infrastructure, and secondarily, on the integrity and efficiency of the overall real estate portfolio. Primary Role: The Director, Data Center Engineering Construction will have broad responsibility to direct facility engineering and construction activities for data centers owned or leased by CSC and provide engineering and construction support services to the office portfolio on demand. Key Responsibilities: To serve as the senior SME in all aspects of facility engineering design and construction, supporting all regional REFM and CCE staff in relevant engineering and construction activities To maintain current knowledge of means, methods, and practices within the facility engineering and construction industry with particular emphasis on critical environments Provide technical oversight and direction to all global data center capital projects. The extent of involvement may range from consulting oversight to direct management. Capital project delivery includes leading multi-disciplinary project planning/delivery teams in the functions of budget, schedule, technical review, site coordination and construction. Manage all external resources including engineering and other consultants required to assess data center condition/operability, design improvements, and contracting for construction. Develop and manage key information gathering and reporting tools that support the flexibility to rapidly respond to emerging opportunities, the capability to perform ongoing "what if" analysis, and the ability to proactively plan for the long-term. Participate in, and directly manage, process improvement, and standardization of tools and methods, in all areas where Critical Environments is either directly responsible, or shares responsibility, with other CSC organizations Participate in development of plans to continuously optimize the portfolio of owned/leased CSC facilities to achieve desired utilization levels and the lowest overall total cost of operation within each region. Provide input to and assist in the development of strong business cases that gain support and funding for facilities optimization actions (e.g., closure, consolidation, compression, site improvement, and new site acquisition). Contribute to annual budget development activities. Develop and recommend proposals for facility capital improvements and/or energy reduction Support regional CCE staffs in emergency response to data center incidents, technical assessment of root cause, identification of remedial actions and application of lessons learned Develop and maintain close working relationships with the Managed Computing Services organization staff. Knowledge Skills required: Technical knowledge of architectural, mechanical, and electrical systems for mission critical facilities. Systems include uninterruptible power systems (UPS), engine generators, power distribution units, fire protection, and security. Knowledge of data center facilities management operations and maintenance practices. Strong engineering and project management skills and the ability to maintain oversight of numerous simultaneous projects. Ability to operate effectively in a matrix management environment Working knowledge of project cost accounting and general budget accounting practices. Effective presentation, communication, and persuasion skills. Experience in facilities management Familiarity with IT management and operations. Effective use of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project software applications Travel: Significant domestic and international travel (estimated to be from 40% to 50%) Reports to: Willreport directly to the Director, Corporate Facilities Management Supervises: No direct reports initially. Potential for future construction manager. Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with progressive responsibility. Education: Undergraduate degree, preferably electrical engineering or alternatively mechanical engineering required. Professional engineering registration and advanced degree, (MBA) preferred.
