Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation is seeking a Director of Environmental Services. Please read description below:
The Director of Environemental Services is responsible for the following:
• Manages the maintenance of the building, grounds, equipment, and plant facilities.
• Installs, moves, repairs, and removes equipment and utilities within the building.
• Keeps in compliance with and abreast of all OSHA regulations.
• Contracts with and supervises all outside contractors.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience and responsibility in a maintenance field, two of which were holding a supervisory position directing a multi-functional maintenance staff.
Required Skills
Assist in collecting and reviewing maintenance requisitions from all units and departments of the facility. Reviews information, establishes priorities, assigns staff or inspects, replaces, repairs or otherwise resolves the problem.
Assist in establishing and conducting scheduled maintenance throughout physical plant and for all equipment.
Assist in maintaining and testing the emergency power system to ensure availability of power to all entrances, exits, fire detection alarms and extinguishing equipment and life support systems in the event electrical supplies are interrupted.
Assist in maintaining all essential equipment (e.g., boiler room equipment, nursing unit/medication room refrigerators, refrigerator/freezer, laundry equipment) in safe operating condition.
Ensures the availability of portable water to essential areas in the event of loss of normal water supply.
Tests facility hot water system on regular basis to evaluate water temperatures in essential locations of facility. Monitors acceptable range of temperatures and immediately starts repairs to eliminate hazards for facility residents, staff and others.
Assist in inspecting, testing and maintaining resident call system to ensure a functioning communication system from rooms, toilets and bathing facilities.
Inspects physical plant for any signs of rodents or pests. In cooperation with Housekeeping Department, implements effective pest control system to eliminate any rodents and pests.
Maintains adequate and comfortable lighting levels, appropriate for tasks, without glare. Lighting supports independent functioning and task performance of residents.
Maintains facility ventilation system to provide good air movement with acceptable temperature, humidity and odor levels, ventilation system eliminates drafts and provides adequate smoke exhaust.
Posts signs to identify smoking and non-smoking areas.
Responds to emergency maintenance needs promptly.
Cooperates with other departments to identify and accommodate individual resident need and preferences. Communicates directly with residents, families, and legal representatives to identify approaches that will protect and promote residents, rights. Maintains furniture and equipment appropriate to individuals needs and abilities.
Monitors staff for compliance with OSHA mandates on workplace safety including hazard communication and blood borne pathogens. In cases of workplace exposure, provides immediate first aid and refers employee to appropriate facility staff member for post-exposure follow-up.
Participates in the development of the department budget. Provides relevant financial information to Director, Maintenance regarding department financial needs and status.
Communicates with Facility Maintenance Coordinator to notify him/her of all unusual events, needs, or emergencies. Responds promptly to requests from Facility Maintenance Coordinator.
Actively participates in long term care survey process by instructing staff in matters of conduct and disclosure, maintaining a presence at all times surveyors are on-site and directing the timely collection of information required by the survey team. Demonstrates concern for identified problems and undertakes corrective action while survey is in progress if appropriate. Gathers and presents supplemental documentation to avoid potential deficiencies. Collaborates with Director of Maintenance to develop responses to survey report as needed.
Reports injury of self or others to Unit Charge Nurse immediately.
Maintains current skills and knowledge through continuing education. Applies information to job responsibilities.
Participates in fire and disaster drills. In event of an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure resident safety.
