The Parks and Recreation  Board oversees the sustainable stewardship of more than 200 parks and numerous facilities including multi-purpose community and recreation centres, concessions and restaurants, marinas and attractions, and is home to world-renowned parks and facilities such as Stanley Park, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and legacy venues from the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

An exceptional opportunity awaits a strategic financial professional.   With an eye to streamlining the financial operations of the City of Vancouver’s various business units, a new role has been created to transform the finance function of one of the City’s most dynamic divisions.  The Director of Financial Planning Analysis – Parks and Recreation Board will provide strategic financial support to the General Manager of the Vancouver Board of Parks Recreation as a member of the City of Vancouver’s Financial Planning Analysis team.

 

With responsibility for Financial Planning Analysis, including the Parks Recreation budget and financial forecast, the Director is the most senior finance position supporting the Board of Parks Recreation.  This role will report directly to the City’s Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, and the incumbent will act as a trusted advisor to the Parks and Recreation General Manager on all finance matters; he/she is a key member of both the City’s Financial Planning and Analysis team and the Parks Recreation’s Executive team.  This role will act as a change agent and the incumbent will play a key role establishing a financial and performance measurement framework within the City’s overall framework. The Director will provide data analysis and actionable insights to the Parks Recreation executive team, as well as manage an operating and capital budget, while contributing to the long-term strategy of the department.

 

The ideal candidate will be a highly successful and confident finance professional with a proven track record in finance and strategic business support. With a minimum of 15 years’ experience in progressively senior roles, the Director will bring a solid track record in successfully managing transformational change and fostering a culture of excellence. This strategic thinker will bring strong planning experience, analytical skills and a solid business perspective to the role and will have outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities to lead a group of professional staff.  A bachelor’s degree along with an Accounting designation or MBA is preferred.
