Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Director, Global Technology Operations opening to join our clients Global Information Systems organization.

Day to Day (what a typical day or week look like in this role)

Reporting to the Vice President, Global IT Managed Services, the Director, Global Technology Operations will have primary responsibility for the strategic direction and operational environments of all internal and external data center operations, including short and long-term strategies, day to day operations, production change control, incident management, vendor management and the implementation of service delivery improvement initiatives. The Director, Global Technology Operations will be responsible for developing and leading a high performing team while partnering with key stakeholders in both the business and technology functions across the company. The technology operations function currently supports a diverse platform which is moving towards a consolidated strategy as part of the overall IT roadmap. As such, the successful candidate will have a focused team of IT resources to support the data center operations function on a global basis.

What You Will Do

·         Deliver data center solutions which are proactively implemented and supported to address the growing demands of the business. Quickly and effectively mitigate business impacting operational deficiencies, while introducing new processes and controls to eliminate repetitive defects. Manage all hardware and software assets deployed in the global infrastructure.

·         Ensure the date center operations have 99.999% uptime and availability. Deliver quality focused products/services across all layers of the application stack via established monitoring and alerting protocols that are ubiquitously deployed within the global infrastructure. Formulate and implement sound procedures and standards in operations.

·         Develop a comprehensive strategy and plan to make, buy, integrate or acquire new technology to maximize the value of the technology portfolio. Maintain and apply current knowledge of technology, keep abreast of new and emerging technologies and determine if they can be used to apply value to the business.

·         Create and foster long-term relationships with internal and external partners. Work closely with client's strategic partners to aggressively manage service level agreements, increasing value and speed of delivery while decreasing cost. Partner with vendors to plan, design and build technologies related to the direction of the technology evolution.

·         Manage the release management, change control and incident management for all customers who host products and services within the global data centers and associated regional and/or outsourced operations. Develop and deliver a disciplined process for first line support to expedite problem resolution while driving enhancements to reduce future outages.

·         Drive best practices and process improvement across the function. Identify opportunities to increase data center utilization and create opportunities for consolidation and simplification by leveraging synergies between people and groups. Drive a total cost of ownership mindset in operations. Establish end-to-end processes to drive down cycle time and improve efficiency.

·         Define and outline innovation opportunities and large capital initiatives around disaster recovery, vitalization, cloud computing, data center expansion, new facilities build out, service management and third party hosting management.

·         Manage the business of IT. Analyze the overall operation spend to appropriately forecast and plan for future infrastructure investments. Work closely with the Vice President, Global IT Managed Services and his team to establish a budget for global technology operations and ensure adherence to the goals through cost control.

·         Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise a high performing team and strategic sourced partner resources, and influence them to take positive action and drive accountability for their assigned work.

What You Need To Succeed

Functional Skills

·         Strong technical foundation to include an undergraduate degree in computer science or a related field. An MBA or advanced technical degree is strongly preferred. The successful candidate should have at minimum 15 years of information technology experience in roles of increasing complexity.

·         Infrastructure and operations depth is required as is an understanding of the technology behind the effective delivery of data center services and how to support an outsource service delivery model. The successful candidate must be a hands-on technical leader with familiarity in global operations across a wide variety of technology platforms.

·         Prove project management skills. The successful candidate must be comfortable understanding technical requirements, explaining solutions guidelines and driving teams towards delivery dates. This leader will have good customer facing skills, the capability to break down barriers and the agility to move throughout an organization at all levels to serve the business.

·         Knowledge of ITIL framework driving a service management oriented approach to IT is required. A track record of utilizing this methodology to develop a current state assessment and roadmap for the future state operational environment is expected.

·         Expertise and previous experience in driving off-shoring and outsourcing relationships is also required as the successful candidate will continue to evolve current operations environments with key strategic sourcing partners. An ability to outline the current and future state of these partnerships and manage to key SLAs will be critical.

·         Strong process and best practice methodology and portfolio management skills are required. Ensuring consistent delivery of projects and programs on time and within budget and scope parameters while meeting the business expectations and ongoing service/support metrics is expected. Experience with Six Sigma, ITIL or other similar process methodologies are preferred.

Business Experience

·         Large, global company experience ideally gained in a fast paced, evolving environment is highly desired. An understanding of the multi-channel, diversified consumer company would be ideal and would assist the successful candidate in gaining credibility with the business.

·         Recognizing the manufacturing and supply chain complexity of the business, this leader will ideally have the experience in a consumer products or industrial company setting. Operational experience supporting a multi-channel, complex supply chain environment would be additive.

·         A proven track record of leading significant change and transformation is required. The successful candidate must be an expert in building capabilities, driving change readiness, utilizing best practices and driving metrics and discipline on complex IT initiatives. A history of leading teams through transformational challenges is critical.

·         Expertise and previous experience in leveraging an outsource model is also required as the successful candidate will work closely with outsourced partners supporting the company's development, maintenance, and infrastructure efforts.

·         Foundational experience gained in a well managed, process oriented, and financial metric driven company is preferred. An ability to apply best-in-class methodologies to a legacy environment is crucial as is an understanding of how to drive value through the adoption of new service delivery models.

Communication across the enterprise will be important as this leader will often be tasked with leading cross-functional teams as he/she executes these large scale programs and projects. The successful candidate must effectively communicate cross-functionally and at a variety of levels within the organization.

·         A proven team builder. He/she must be dedicated to recruiting, retaining and coaching leaders to help build a bench of IT talent for the corporation. The successful candidate must have a track record of building highly effective teams in transformation environments.

·         Succession potential is required. The successful candidate must have the potential to be viewed as a succession candidate to the Vice President, Global IT Managed Services position as well as within the global IT organization.
