Position Description:

Position Purpose
The leader responsible for building strong cross-functional relationships with key decision makers to establish company legislative, regulatory and business priorities and be charged with researching, understanding, and interpreting federal and state government regulations related to all of the Brambles’ business lines across the Americas. In addition, the candidate will keep abreast of new regulations from local and national governments and implement proactive responses. The candidate will interact with regulatory agencies, NGO’s and professional organizations like the Chamber of Commerce to get clarification of information, and will keep the business leadership teams updated as to changes and additions to laws, statutes and regulations. The candidate will visit regulatory agencies and legislative branches, NGO’s, the Chamber of Commerce and other coalitions and industry groups as necessary, and will attend public and private meetings on relevant topics. It is expected that this will include contact with and coordination with key customers and other stakeholders. It is also expected that the candidate will undertake a key role in the global coordination of issues that affect multiple regions, where it is important that Brambles has consistency in its position and approach. In addition to responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to execute the strategic goals we have established for our Canadian and Latin American business.

The Leader will play a critical role in the ongoing development of the Government Affairs policy across the Americas and aligning it with the strategic vision of the region and Brambles as a whole, fulfilling all shareholder and Brambles commitments through the integrated execution of such critical tasks.

Major/Key Accountabilities
• Further develop and execute the Government Affairs strategy for the Americas region.
• Build relationships and coalitions with the local, national and international governmental bodies and related groups to support the Brambles Group of companies.
• Full responsibility for all functions related to local and national legislative and regulatory concerns.
• Leverage lobbying, public relations, and legal consultants for maximized results and value for fees paid.
• Coordinate best practices globally.
• Coordinate the Governmental activities with Strategic Marketing, Marketing, and Product Development.
• Coordinate coalition building with industry and the US Chamber of Commerce (and its international affiliates) as related to key strategies.
• Monitor, analyze and report on relevant local and national legislation and appropriations.
• Develop competitive response to any changing food safety, or transportation safety issues and regulatory developments related to Brambles companies.
• Develop fact based internal communication of any changing food safety, regulatory, or transportation safety issues related to Brambles Group of companies.
• Development of formal submissions to local and national regulatory and legislative and industry bodies.
• Effectively represent the Brambles companies to senior public officials in local and national agencies, legislative and executive branches and the private sector.
• Provide strategic and tactical leadership and advice on public policy issues.
• Build strategy to leverage Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s) in support of corporate efforts.
• Coordinate with the marketing group to support their efforts with environmental and ISPM 15 management, as appropriate.
• Always respects the Brambles values, applies the Company policies, Code of conduct and legal regulations.

Qualifications
• Strong track record in developing cohesive and integrated strategies across multiple functions, and demonstrated success managing strategic government affairs issues for major corporations.
• Works well under pressure and in potential crisis situations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Bachelors Degree in Business, Government or related field. MBA or JD preferred.
• Strong organization, problem solving and time leadership skills
• Detailed understanding of all Brambles business functions including Sales, Operations, and Growth Strategy
• Strong history of governmental and industry lobbying, and strong network of existing contacts in this area
• Strong history of managing third parties

Experience
• 10 -15 years well rounded experience in Government Affairs
• 5-10 years successful senior level Management experience
• Experience in managing diverse issues, teams, third party groups
Skills and Knowledge
• External leadership experience a plus
• Strong negotiating, collaboration, position selling and relationship building capabilities
• Significant lobbying and governmental experience is necessary
• Strong analytical skills
• Strategic thinking, ability to develop and drive a concept through to completion
• Moderate to extensive travel required
• Logistics business knowledge – understanding of industry sector, market and supply chain a plus
• Superior communication skills – ability to represent Brambles’ position and goals while understanding and recognizing the needs of others
• Solid critical thinking skills – able to ask the right questions, process information and quickly think beyond present
• Innovative problem solving and analytical thinking.
