As a Solution Business Leader (SBL), you will be responsible for leading the overall strategy, leadership and execution of the company’s business for Grid Reliability Applications, including distribution automation, line-sensing, voltage optimization and line and related applications. This role has a global mandate and will likely include significant interface with customers and partners.
This is a young, but fast growing segment of the company’s portfolio and is key to helping the company achieve its long-term objectives. You will be responsible for leading a small team of direct reports as well as significant cross-functional interface across the Company. You will direct overall product strategy, including market analysis, Build/Buy/Partner discussions, product management activities within the context of the overall corporate plan to meet company objectives.
The SBL leads the development of business plans and is responsible for the business results of cross-product solutions. You will manage product strategy and product positioning in the market place based on customer needs and the market trends/competitive landscape. You will initiate and foster relationships with development, sales, and other product management groups to develop cross-product solutions, enhance functionality of existing products, and promote those products within the marketplace.
You must be a thoughtful and passionate leader, able to communicate with all areas of the company and have frequent interactions with senior management. You will work with finance to develop and maintain pricing for your product line and track ongoing sales and gross margin. You will meet with management on a regular basis to review your product lines contribution to the business unit.
A product line manager's key role is strategic, not tactical. The other organizations will support your proactive strategic efforts; you won't be reactively supporting their tactical tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceive, refine, develop and execute the overall strategy for Grid Reliability at Silver Spring Networks
- Develop a long-term business plan and product strategy to achieve the agreed-to goals
- Conduct build/buy/partner evaluations in the execution of the strategy
- Manage the entire product management framework from strategic planning to tactical activities for the entire category
- Drive and reinforce the company PLC for solution development.
- Manage one or more product managers. Recruit, mentor and develop product management talent.
- Formulate and execute strategy with cross-functional teams and partners through market requirements, solution pricing, product contract, and positioning.
- Analyze product market segments and perform competitive analysis of those segments; drive strategies to increase product benefits in target segments.
- Serve as the senior sponsor for partnering activities within the category.
- Develop and implement the go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute.
- Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for Silver Spring Networks' solutions, both internally and externally.
Experience Required
- 10+ years experience in Product Management and relevant market experience
- Proven track record of building businesses from early stages into market leadership.
- Specific expertise in the energy and utility industries required, specific domain knowledge in grid reliability as strong plus.
- The ability to anticipate the direction of the market, develop a vision for the solution and build a roadmap to deliver.
- Demonstrate passion for great people and engineers, and ability to lead strong teams to ambitious goals.
- Team player with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of regular interface with senior leaders inside and outside the company.
- Embrace change and ambiguity - responds well to changing situations.
- Strong evangelist and spokesperson for the products and the company.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully working with the sales force to close and support large complex customers.
- Results-oriented - able to focus cross-functional teams on achieving common goals, manage competing priorities, and balance strategy and attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree is required. MBA is preferred.
