Director, Human Resources (US Operations)
DIRECT REPORTING
The position reports into the Vice President, HR, in Winnipeg
LOCATION:
St. Cloud, MN, USA.
POSITION GOAL:
This key management position is responsible for the development and direction of human resource activities. Working with plant and senior leadership, to provide HR consultation in the development of people plans to support corporate and individual department business strategies. The Director, Human Resources will make recommendations in the areas of succession planning, talent assessment and leadership development to help build bench strength and organization capability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (list in order of importance)
1. Directing and managing all operations in the US for the Human Resources functions and teams.
Responsible for the daily human resource activities of disability claims management, recruitment/selection, payroll and benefits administration, employee relations, labour relations, training and development, and health and safety.
2. Develop and implement policies, programs, and procedures to improve effectiveness of Human
Resource function within organization.
3. Assist Vice President in the development and implementation of HR strategy and plans designed to support the corporate business strategy.
4. Support HR leadership in Crookston and St. Cloud locations to facilitate standardization and integration of human resource practices and procedures throughout all plant locations.
5. Act as advisor to senior executives/management to ensure proactive HR strategies and solutions are in place to address key business priorities and to identify areas that adversely affect employee morale and productivity.
6. Evaluates human relations and work related problems and meet with supervisors, managers, and executives to determine effective remediation techniques such as job skill training, counseling, and discipline intervention to resolve human relations issues among personnel.
7. In coordination with Vice President-Human Resources responsible for the day to day pension plan administration and the initiation and implementation of pension governance matters.
8. Initiate, plan and implement policies to ensure legal compliance for all aspects of human resources activity.
9. Oversee the maintenance, development and security of Human Resource Information Systems
(HRIS).
10. Responsible for directing compliance with respect to intra-company immigration issues.
11. Plan, administer and control department budget.
12. Responsible to ensure all key controls (ICFR Internal Controls) identified under their area of responsibility are designed and operating as outlined in the internal controls over Financial Reporting.
13. Ensure policies and processes are established and adhered to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met including organizational Quality, Environmental, Health Safety programs.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE
Requires at least 7 years progressive human resources generalist experience with more than 5 years at a senior management level in a high volume manufacturing environment with exposures in a multi-facility.
Experience must include hands on-responsibility for the full scope of human resources activities, both operations and analysis.
SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS
Ability to prepare and analyze comprehensive reports and develop plans; Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion;
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, leadership and labor unions.
EDUCATION (PREFERRED EDUCATION ONLY)
Post secondary education in related human resources field or equivalent experience.
