Position Summary

    Under general direction of the Vice President of Regulatory and Quality Assurance, The Director, Information Technology - ABTG is responsible to provide vision and leadership for the development of an overarching IT strategy, key initiatives and long-term planning. This role directs the planning and implementation of AmerisourceBergen Technology Group system in support of business operations in order to improve cost effectiveness, service quality, and business development. This individual is responsible for all aspects of the organization’s information technologies and systems. This is a cross-functional position that requires insight into multiple IT and business domains. This role aligns IT and business drivers, and maintains a road-map to direct the organization from a current state to a future state technology environment and subsequently coordinates the measurement and analysis of IT business improvement and successes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Participates in strategic and operational governance processes of AmerisourceBergen Technology Group.
  2. Leads IT strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the organization.
  3. Develops and maintains an appropriate IT organizational structure that supports the needs of the business.
  4. Establishes IT departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures.
  5. Acts as an advocate for the organization’s IT vision via regular written and in-person communications with the senior management team, department heads, and end users.
  6. Identifies opportunities for the appropriate and cost-effective investment of financial resources in IT systems and resources, including staffing, sourcing, purchasing, and in-house development.
  7. Develops, tracks, and controls the information technology annual operating and capital budgets.
  8. Develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  9. Coordinates and facilitates consultation with management and staff to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
  10. Ensures continuous delivery of IT services through oversight of staff usage and monitoring of IT systems performance.
  11. Ensures IT system operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations.
  12. Defines and communicates AmerisourceBergen Technology Group plans, policies, and standards for the organization for acquiring, implementing, and operating IT systems.
  13. Directs development and execution of a AmerisourceBergen Technology Group -wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
  14. Approves, prioritizes, and controls projects and the project portfolio as they relate to the selection, acquisition, development, and installation of major information systems.
  15. Reviews hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts.
  16. Assesses and makes recommendations on the improvement or re-engineering of the IT program.
  17. Keeps current with trends and issues in the IT industry, including current technologies and prices. Advises, counsels, and educates senior management on their competitive or financial impact.
  18. Promotes and oversees strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external entities, including government, vendors, and partner organizations.
  19. Supervises recruitment, development, retention, and organization of all IT staff in accordance with corporate budgetary objectives and personnel policies.
  20. Must be available for local and out of the area travel as required for job related training. May need to attend all required meetings and functions as requested.
  21. Performs related duties as assigned.
Experience and Education Requirements

    Requires broad training in fields such as business administration, accounting, sales, marketing, computer sciences or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four year bachelor's degree program; normally requires a minimum of fifteen (15) years related and progressively responsible experience.
