Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL)

Applications are now invited for the appointment as Director of CETL (at the level of Professor/Associate Professor) from as soon as possible. The appointment will initially be made on a fi ve-year fi xed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
CETL is the prime unit in the University that promotes best practices in pedagogy and assessment at HKU and plays a key role in supporting the implementation of university policies in relation to teaching and learning. It has established a strong track record in its active engagement with Faculties, and in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The appointee is expected to provide leadership in the following areas: (a) advise and support Faculties on curriculum design, pedagogy and assessment, and facilitate collaboration amongst Faculties in connection with the implementation of 4-year undergraduate curriculum reform in 2012; (b) provide academic staff development courses, seminars and workshops; (c) conduct research on student learning experiences and outcomes as part of an evidence-based approach to quality enhancement; and (d) keep the mission and the structure of the Centre under regular review to ensure that it takes a proactive role in advancing teaching and learning in the University.
Applicants should have a track record of providing leadership in the enhancement of teaching and learning at university, outstanding research and publications in the areas of teaching, learning and/or assessment in higher education, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with academic staff in Faculties on curriculum and pedagogical innovation in their respective disciplines, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in leading a centre of similar nature and in promoting eLearning would be a clear advantage.

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifi cations and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefi ts scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical benefi ts. Housing benefi ts will be provided as applicable.
