Director Level – Fundraising/Placement/Distribution recruitment
Skills required:
The candidate will possess demonstrable private equity fundraising experience from a fund placement agent, a private equity house or similar institution in a fundraising role. They will be a versatile individual, with an excellent understanding of the private equity universe. They must have a strong network of relationships with institutional investors (pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, etc. ) interested in the infrastructure asset class.
In view of their experience, they will have the necessary skills and demeanour to handle investor relationships to the highest professional standards in the industry. Experience and knowledge of the energy space is highly desirable.
This is a rare opportunity to join a unique and growing business at the ground level. The candidate will have significant input into the strategy and contribute to building out the business. Our client works with a range of funds varying in strategy, location and size, as well as on secondary portfolios. It operates in a technically complex sector and one of the fastest growing markets in private equity. The team also provides advice on all aspects of the fundraising process, including market assessment, competitive positioning, preparation of marketing materials and documentation.
To fill this position the candidate would preferably have a background in private equity (although other backgrounds which demonstrate specialised experience in this asset class and high calibre relationships with institutional investors, where demonstrable, would be considered). They should be fully aware of issues and regulations (both existing practices as well as new legislation) within the private equity space as well as their LPs’ universe. They should be a well presented, articulate and driven individual, capable of running complex sales campaigns with long sales cycles. They should be self-motivated and comfortable working as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and regularly monitor existing LP relationships’ appetite and status
- Consistently seek to expand breadth of investor reach through utilising propriety databases and third-party sources to identify high-quality investors in EMEA for this client’s mandates
- Contribute to the creation of marketing materials by working with other team members to produce private placement memoranda, pitch books and other presentations for meetings with both existing and prospective investors
- Work with the associates and analysts to ensure investors’ due diligence is conducted to the highest standard through supervising:
- The online data room
- Effective and efficient responses to investor questions
- Tracking and analysing key activities of various GPs’ portfolios, in order to promptly answer investor queries and prepare for meetings/discussions with investors
- Contribute to research and analysis projects that advance the team’s strategic plan
- Proactively work with other team members to refine and increase the depth of investor database knowledge via feedback on:
- Interactions with investors and prospects
- Investors’ commitments to past funds and likely commitments to future funds
- Investors’ progress through the investment process
Required skills:
- Excellent LP relationships and proven track record in placing PE funds
- Ability to work in an entrepreneurial environment and lead mandates
- Excellent work ethic and desire to gain a broad view of the private equity space, across the lifecycle
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to work within a small team in a fast-paced environment; flexibility in the face of competing and changing priorities
- Fluency in one or more major business languages other than English
- A minimum of 8 years’ exposure to institutional investors working for a private equity placement agent or PE manager investor relations team. Other investment banking or consulting backgrounds covering institutional investors could be considered as well
- Polished interpersonal skills required to work with a highly sophisticated client base
- Outstanding analytical skills to be able to handle complex legal and corporate documentation
- Quantitative background and knowledge/experience in the energy sector a plus
